Last month's appeal for the sagging fortunes of this part of the Alumni Mag was a resounding success. Thanks to MikeBliss, one reply was received.

Mike reports he finds teaching English at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh challenging and rewarding. Mike also is finishing up his dissertation at Harvard. Not to be outdone, his wife Corrine holds forth as an instructor at the University of Pittsburgh. This creates some problems for child care as they alternate classes and diapers. The diapers belong to first born Austin Constantine Bliss who arrived last November. Hopefully all three will make it to Hanover in June.

Mike did some campaigning for DougWalgren last fall in Doug's effort to win a congressional seat. Hope you were more help to Doug than I was to Paul McCloskey last month, Mike.

John Williams has been promoted to director of marketing for the Soflens division of Bausch & Lomb. Formerly marketing manager of the division with primary responsibility for sales operations, his duties are now expanded to include advertising, sales promotion, cus- tomer relations, and order processing. John joined B & L in 1965 as an ophthalmic instrument salesman. He is working toward an MBA from the Univercity of Rochester (evening school).

That's the extent of the news for the month. Perhpas it's time we look at what we're trying to accomplish with the class columns in the Magazine. This year concludes six or seven years of writing the monthly sheet. Each month it gets more difficult. The problem seems to be fairly constant with several of the class secretaries. We are always able to repeat the press notices relating to job advancements, military promotions, marriages (still), births, and countless academic achievements. But it's very dull and quite frankly rather immaterial. Of greater significance is the personal card, note or letter that informs us more is happening than revealed by General Motors, Continental Can or Harvard Medical School.

As a member of the Class with perhaps a special interest I ask that, in this your reunion year, you give consideration to what made Dartmouth appealing to you. The liberal and free exchange of thought, opinion, ideas, projects and concerns helped create the Dartmouth experience for us ten years ago. The same is available today. Kick in during the next ten years and help the rest of us prosper by being part of your concerns and opinions.

The reunion committee is busy at work. Be sure to answer all your correspondence. (I wonder if Dan Hummel answered the one about thinning hair?)

Coupled with the reunion this year is the reunion year Alumni Fund Drive. Bob VanDam and his crew are beating the bushes again. Dig deep, and be sure you're in Hanover in June.
