It is a relief to start these notes with a story from the career of our late classmate, Warren F. (String-) Hale, the account having been furnished by Bob Monahan, via John Hinman. As chairman of a N. H. House Committee, Bob called a meeting for the purpose of formulating a policy regarding certain islands in the State's lakes and ponds. String's testimony was much desired but he was advised that he need not testify, his ill health at the time being common knowledge.' But this was String's lifelong hobby and he gladly welcomed the opportunity to explain what he knew. It was a lengthy hearing, but the confusing subject was ably clarified by Warren Hale. That night he died in his sleep. Quoting Bob Monahan, "It was indeed sad at the moment, but now we cannot imagine any better way for Warren Hale to have closed his busy life."
John and Jenny Hinman have returned from their Florida vacation, both in fine health, though Jenny had a slight heart attack at the time of the Penn game. LarryTreadway is in the news once more because major changes are in prospect for the Williamstown Inn. The building, which has always been the property of Williams College, will be converted to a dormitory. A new Inn will be built by the Treadway Company on a former fraternity site, from a design which is to become a prototype of future Treadway Inns.
Pop Chesley sends us a photo of our 50th Reunion, taken on the steps of Webster Hall. With 88 men, it makes quite a spread, and a little difficult to recognize every one. At least, it is stirring up Pop's enthusiasm for our 70th. Don't miss the treat.
Greetings from Kid Richardson and from Guy Blodgett, who are probably deferring a bit of real news for later. Thanks just the same.
