The December issue of the Alumni Magazine contained a review of a book written by LarryHewes entitled Rural Developments: WorldFrontiers. Larry was the Visiting Fellow for the Center of Democratic Institutions in Santa Barbara last October where he presented a paper on the World Food Situation and engaged in a debate with Garret Hardin of the Department of Human Biology at the University of California at Santa Barbara. The book was published about that time and, as the review points out, it contains many sobering thoughts about the world food problems.
Larry has had a long and distinguished career in government service, dating back to 1935 when he became an assistant to the Undersecretary of Agriculture, and including direction of the Japanese Land Reform Program folloiwing World War II. He has also been concerned with land reform in several other foreign countries. He is the author of many publications and several books. He is the currently working on an autobiographical book which emphasizes the public administration aspects of government service.

The death of Louis Lamont on December 30, 1974 has been reported by Phil VanHuyck. Lou was active in Dartmouth affairs in the Westchester County area. Also on January 19, 1975 Frank (Bub) Tice died in Grand View Hospital in Sellersville, Pa. Bub and his wife were in Hanover for the 50th last June. In both cases an obituary will appear in the AlumniMagazine and the secretary has expressed the sympathy of the class to their families.
Mony Monahan has joined the class delegation in the Sarasota area for a stay of six weeks and the Lamsons plan a sojourn in Delray.
A fund has been set up in memory of DonBartlett's wife Henri to be known as the Henrietta Bartlett Memorial. It will be used by the Public Library in Norwich, Vt., to buy books and records for children.
In news from the North Country, ChineeAllen reports on the doings of the Hanover delegation of the Class. He and Margaret frequently see Tup Tupper and his wife Louise. Likewise the Alex Gibsons who are not too far away from Hanover. Chinee also mentions that the Stu Eldredges regret that they were unable to make the 50th. Incidentally the Class is indebted to Stu for the design of the birthday card; both the new ones just put into use and the previous one. Such a splendid service to the Class deserves a hearty vote of appreciation. This represents one aspect of the great artistic talent of the entire Eldredge family.
A note from Jimmie Reid calls attention to a correction in his book, An Adventure in Textbooks, regarding his association with Penn Haile shortly after graduation. This will be covered more fully in the '24 Hour Notice.
All members of the Class have received the enclosure from the College with the last '24 Hour Notice regarding the Post-50 Year Reunion, scheduled for June 9-12. The program sounds most interesting and we hope that '24 will be well represented among those taking part. Hanover in June is always a perfect time of year and these few days should be a splendid way to enjoy it.
