A note from Sam Hird, which in turn contained a copy of a letter from Ed Oppenheim tells a marvelous story. It's about Cupid and the charming and magical dart. It seems that at the 35th Reunion in Hanover, Ed made the acquaintance of Joan Weil, attending the affair as a guest of the Bobby and Dick Weils. Pierced by the arrow, Ed recounts nuptial plans that presumably took place in New Orleans directly after Christmas. What a wonderous green web spun under the auspices of the Class of '39!

A local Connecticut press pictures a nononsense golf foursome, framed by the turquoise ocean at Bermuda. They represent the Black Hall Country Club team of Old Lyme, entrants, along with 96 other teams, in the annual Bermuda Goodwill Golf Tournament, the largest pro-am entry of its kind. Representing our class was Wells Bates, wreathed in smiles in the portrait, though no mention was made of the prowess of his entry.

On the more official side of class business, be it noted that Bill Green has stepped down from his post as Class Memorial chairman after countless years of devoted work in the class vineyard. Sam Hird has agreed to take on the job in his stead, according to our advices from our president, Bert MacMannis.

Art Larkin continues to make a subject for newsprint. As chairman and president of Keebler Company, he has ordained that the famous Keebler elves will launch a strong comeback in television. Art has been at the top elf now for some two years and reports an incursion planned in the foreign market. On other matters sales are up, but there is a problem with profit - a most familiar strain played by all of us in the dandy 1975's. Cheer up, Art! Can't last for ever. Keep the elves busy and everything will turn for the better.

Your scribe has been a right busy old elf in his own right. Hardly has anything to do with cookies, but we've been nursing a miserable back since - well since at least our 35th Reunion. We've seen all manner of medical men, as well as purveyors of snake oil and other mystical remedies. Some call for patience, and a higher pain threshold, and others attack us with threat of the knife. For ourselves, we seem to recover when we see the blade, but one turn around the track and the old leg buckles. So after two outings to one of Boston's finest, trapped within the walls of the massive Mass General complex, we have signed our name in blood, and in just one weer from this moment of authorship we are succumbing finally with a fervent hope that as you read this stuff, we'll be home hale and hearty, and the indecisions and agonies naught but a memory.

There have been some address changes that you'll want to know about: John Lee, residing in France since Sept. 1970, is now at D 6 Frankfurt/Main 2, Postfach 11 91 48, West Germany. Dr. Murray Bornstein from Englewood, N.J. to 356 Cantitoe Rd., Bedford Hills, N.Y. 10507. Bob Dickgiesser from Woodbridge, Conn, to 565-B Pequot Lane, Oronoque Village, Stratford, Conn. 06497; although you'll often find the Dickgiessers in their White River Junction hideaway high up over the river. Bob Eaton from Wellesley to 1550 Worcester Rd., Apt. 327-W, Framingham, Mass. 01701. Johnny Finocan made a street address change in Gloversville, N.Y. 12078, from Kingsboro to 13 Prospect Avenue. Charlie Gluek to just Box 52, Crystal Bay, Minn. 55323. John Haartz to Flayward Rd., Box 286, Acton, Mass. 01720. Dick Hobbs in what looks like a seasonal swing from West Ossipee, N.H. to Apt. 412, Crane Crest Apts., 1850 South Ocean Blvd., Pompano Beach, Fla. 33062. Dave Lilly moved from twin to twin, Minneapolis to 18 Summit Court, Saint Paul, Minn. 55102. Dr. Ralph Reynolds from Albany, N.Y. to 25 Douglas Rd., Delmar, N.Y. 12054. Dick Varey from Laconia, N.H. to 925 Alameda Way, Sarasota, Fla. 33580. Col. Myles Weston from coast to coast-Florida to 2299 Sacramento St., San Francisco, Calif. 941 10. And that brings us up to date for the nonce.

Keep of good cheer, and remember, the summer is coming.
