A veritable plethora of news this month, indeed. Not only a full size column but on time! (Well almost - ask JH).
Tuck evidently is not keeping Bill Pickard busy enough; he's also coach of the Dartmouth women's crew this spring. Volunteer Bill expects to be on the river when (if?) the ice subsides.
Remember the recent "revolt" by freshmen Democratic Representatives? Remember J. Irwin Miller, honorary degree recipient in 1971? A recent article in the Washington Post revealed that much financial support for the revolt came from Mr. Miller, and that his "deputy" was none other than Pete Hutchinson. A word of warning: Hutch was quoted as saying that a similar effort is on tap for Republicans next year.
Most of the rest of this month's column is courtesy of Bob Schnabel, who forwarded a bunch of news he got with class dues cards. (You have paid yours, haven't you?) Bob himself is in his second year of a doctoral program in applied math at Cornell; he says the program (computer science) is good but expressed doubts about Cayuga's Waters.
Randy Wise is in his final year at Northwestern Dental School and is one of the few 71's not secretly plotting a return to New England. Instead Randy hopes to practice in his home state of Colorado. Running more to form is Dave Pallotta, now at Tufts Dental School, who plans to settle in New Hampshire or Vermont.
Having set the Class up with dental care we move on to doctors. Anders Rhodin finished a year and a half of basic science at New York Medical College and transferred to the University of Michigan Med School for his clinical time. Bill Singer is in his fourth year at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine; after an internship in Reading, Bill plans to return to the University of Pennsylvania Hospital for a residency in anesthesiology. SteveBrockway, after finishing up at the Wisconsin School of Medicine, hopes to find a pediatrics residency somewhere in the Southwest.
The '71 contingent at the University of Cincinnati Med School are all alive and well. TonyOwens, with wife Beth the proud new owner of a spaniel named Gatsby, is looking forward to returning to northern New England, possibly in family practice. Rob Sprinkle reported that he and Paul Waldman had the privilege of being on call Christmas Day; after that honor Paul went to England for six weeks of immunology courses, coincidentally followed by a grand tour of the continent. Rob journeyed to Indianapolis to visit Gregg Young and wife Holly and, in what he described as "veritable paroxysm of alumneal zeal," to attend a Dartmouth Alumni Club bash. Rob also reported that Tom Price,Rod Kuzumi, and Chet Husted are doing fine, but the details aren't fit for a family magazine: something to do with muttonchops, knickers, and peanut butter.
Mike DePetrillo, Gary Savatsky and BrianCopeland all should be getting M.D.'s from Columbia in a month or two. Each is going into surgery: Brian into neurosurgery, Gary into orthopedics and Mike, chest surgery.
Un to the weddings ... where there's a little catching up to do. Am Hanson, who graduated rom B.U. Law School last June, married Barara Davis back in October. They're living in erlin, N.H., where Arn is associated with the hrm of Bergeron & Hanson.
Dave Sullivan, who somehow got left out of Doctors section above (he's in his fourth year at B.U.) married Keppie Miller in February. And Roger Prince married Margaret Leinen way back in September. The last two are Probably in the process of moving back east from Oregon where they will both go to work on
Even further back - last August - was the wedding of Rick Davis and Lin Ricordati; TomHenderson was one of the groomsmen. Rick and Lin are now living in Columbus, Ohio, where Rick is a second year law student at Capital University. August also found Robin Armstrong marrying Marcia Byers in London, Ontario. Robin is working on a Ph.D. in geography at the University of Western Ontario.
During the same month of August Bill Fitzpatrick married Lynn Montre out in Olean, New York. Fitz is well on his way to becoming a press baron according to the aforementioned Bob Schnabel, who attended the ceremony. Also present were Jim Low, out of the Army after three years as a medic, and Lad Hudac. There was no mention of how this crew impressed the bride's parents.
Last but not least ... the gang in the picture above. Bob Cushman II was not so recently married (August!) to Faith Hemke of Cleveland, Ohio. Several 71's were there to share in the festivities (left to right): Mike Feldman is finishing up at Georgetown Law and has fast-talked his way into a job as an assistant attorney general with the Special Prosecutor's Office for the state of New York. Al Gabbard has returned from Guadalajara, Mexico. Al claims he got into a med school in the states and has not been heard from since. Dave Krakoff has been posing as a law student in Washington, D.C. and hopes to manufacture raincoats next year. Bob himself lives in San Francisco and works for a home entertainment retailer. ScottMitchell lives in the twin cities of Minnesota and is trying to revive the Pinky Lee Show while working for IBM. Mitch Wallerstein, recently married to Susan Perlick, is now living in Cambridge while getting his doctorate in Public Policy at M.I.T.
The two guys in the back looking on with approval are also Dartmouth alums - RobertCushman '39 is Bob's uncle and GardnerCushman '35 the father of the groom.
That's it. Write or this bounty may wane, and give some bucks to the Alumni Fund.
Green gathering at the August wedding of Bob Cushman Il '7l included classmates MikeFeldman, Al Gabbard, Dave Krakoff, Robert Cushman '39 (uncle), the groom, his fatherGardner Cushman '35, Scott Mitchell, and Mitch Wallerstein. .
