Bea and I are the proud parents of a new daughter, Sarah Ann, born March 15. Mother and daughter, as well as father, are doing well. Other recent arrivals: Their first child, a daughter, Margaret, born September 6, 1978 to Jim Bright and his wife; a son, Brian, born June 23, 1978 to Simon and Sandi Potter; and a son, -Michael Patrick, born May 6, 1978 to John and Martha Shanahan.

Jim is enjoying his new job consulting for General Electric. Simon tells us that young Brian is a candidate for the class of 2000. John writes that an update on him and Martha "sounds like a laundry list of all the things you shouldn't try to do simultaneously if you value your sanity." They bought a house in Scarsdale in March of last year and Michael Patrick arrived six weeks later. "Obviously, Martha has given up the 7:30 to 2 P.M. portion of teaching but continues to coach gymnastics and lacrosse. The only major change I haven't made is a job change: I'm still promoting suburban blight by lending to developers of regional shopping centers with Citibank. It would appear that I've successfully botched my tax planning. Having increased our deductions and exemptions, we then promptly halve our income."

Brian Copeland writes: "Last October my neurosurgical colleagues at the Neurological Institute of New York and I held a party for our fellow resident Sandy Rosner '73. The debauch was sort of a kick in the nuptials for Roz who heard the epithalamium on October 15. Frankly I had forgotten what fun can be had with a few quarts of gin and a couple of daughters of joy."

From Cliff Borofsky: "I must report a false start. Did not get married to Lt. E. Kibele but will marry Paige Dempsey of Greensboro, N.C., in Germany. Of the previous engagement I can only say that further research and field study resulted in a change of course."

In a ceremony attended by a downright reunion of Dartmouth friends, Mike Roberts wed Smadar Levin of Israel last July 8. The wedding was at Dunster House at Harvard, where Smadar and Mike had been tutors for the last several years while doing graduate work. Present were Jill and Tim Breen, Sally and CharlieCollier, Jack Fitzsimmons, Peter Maeck, Fred Meier '70, Susan McCaslin '71S, and Tina and Willis Wood '70. Also in attendence were Professor Emeritus Thomas Vance and his wife Vera. Prof. Vance read a Wallace Stevens poem as part of the ceremony.

Smadar received her Ph.D. in psychology from Harvard and is currently a research fellow at McLean Hospital and Harvard Medical School. Mike expects to receive his degree from Harvard Law School next month and to finish a somewhat moth-eaten doctoral dissertation for the Harvard English Department by the end of the year. Thereafter, they'll be living in Boston where he'll be working as an attorney.

Mark Totman writes: "Gardiner Perry and I had the honor of joining the Lefortes in matrimony. Gardiner performed his first nuptial ceremony at the ocean's edge on the Duxbury beaches. Kodak and I recorded the event. Gardiner is studying at the Swedenborg School of Religion in Newton, Mass."

Hans-Wolfgang Pfahler wed Els van Hussen in Rotterdam last May 26. Living in Vreden, West Germany, they plan to return to the Hanover Plain this summer.

Michael Diaz has been named managing director, Pacific Southwest Region of American President Lines, Ltd. In his new assignment, Mike assumes responsibility for the company's operations in Southern California, Arizona and New Mexico, having spent seven years in general and operational management positions in the shipping industry before joining the company last year.

Blair Strong is practicing law with the firm of Jardine, Stephenson, Bleuett and Weaver in Great Falls, Mont. Blair writes that it was a cold winter but the skiing's great.

Bruce Tepper moved to Southern California for "the good life" and is now working for the Beverly Hills law firm of Freshman, Marantz, Comsky & Deutsch.

Russ Deyo took a new position as an assistant U.S. attorney last October. Kirk Jones is still teaching law at the University of Singapore. Darah Kehnemuyi is completing his final year at the Washington College of Law (American University) while working full time for the Montgomery County public defender's office.

Having spent five years in the Navy as a supply corps officer following graduation, three years in California and the western Pacific, and two years in Washington, D.C., John Conway met and married Jan James of Daytona Beach, Fla., while at Supply Corps School in Athens, Ga., in 1972. She attended the University of Georgia. Crossing a Big Greener with a Georgia Bulldog produced a healthy, blond- haired son, John III, on January 1, 1976. After completing the University of South Carolina Law School this month, John will take a position with the law firm of Cooper, Bowen, Beard and Smoot with offices in Camden and Hilton Head, S.C. The firm specializes in corporate, construction, and international law. Its founding partner, John C. West, is presently the American ambassador to Saudi Arabia. John spent three weeks in London last May with Rebecca and Ken George. She's with Merrill, Lynch, White, Weld while Ken has his own container leasing investment company.

That's all for now. See you next month.
