Greetings from Atlanta! This month I made phone calls to track down those of you who have not written lately. Since it was late, many of my calls were targeted to the western time zones. Genet IdeDuke was home in Rapid City, S.D. She is a research scientist at the South Dakota School of Mines, where her husband, John, is a professor. She also had news of Paul Kuhn, whom she saw at Christmas. He was finishing a job in Missoula, Mont., and moving on to another "rocks" job. She also gave me news of CarolFrost, who is a rocks professor at the University of Wyoming, and Kay Wieboldt, who has moved to Salt Lake City and is planning a career in graphic art.
Carolyn Kelley Evans was home in Des Moines, lowa, where she is enjoying married life with husband John '75. She likes her work as a commercial interior designer, designing office space for a range of clients. She is a new aunt, as her brother, Bruce Kelley '76, just had twins last week. She gave me news of MarianneBond Price and husband Bob Price, who have recently built a new home in Mocksville, just outside Winston-Salem, N.C. Carolyn did not know if Marianne will be attending The Wedding this summer of her prep school roommate, Caroline Kennedy. If you go, Marianne, we want details!
Pete Raskind answered the phone in Milwaukee, where he has been working as a strategic planner for three years with First Bank, Milwaukee. Pete has set up a beer-pong table in his basement, which qualified him for his job as VP of the Milwaukee Dartmouth Club. He gave me news of Rich Sinnott, who just had twins and has moved from San Francisco to St. Louis, where he works for Ralston-Purina. Pete also knew that Peter King has two kids (not twins) and is working as a physician for an Indian reservation in New Mexico. Apparently, Peter really loves the life in New Mexico.
David Speer was home in Tujunga, Calif. I do not know who named the town, but David's work there has been with the jet propulsion lab, building interplanetary space vehicles. David is planning to move east this summer but has planned a 10,000-mile European bike trip before taking on a new job. David sees Duane Peterson on occasion, who still seems to like his work with the California Attorney General.
Dean Stephens was not home in Seattle when I called. Bill Devine was home in San Francisco, where he's enjoying selling commercial real estate. Bill gave me news of Jeff Crowe, who just had a baby girl. Jeff lives in Menlo Park where he works for Rolm. Lauren Tanny works for Gallo in Modesto, Calif. Other '78s in San Francisco include Jeff Krolik, who moved to San Francisco in July with his wife, Christine. Kenneth Tucker was not home in Long Beach, Calif., but left me a Jimmy Stewart imitation on his answering machine. Foster Vail was not home in San Diego and did not provide an answering machine for my amusement.
Lyman Webber was home in Chicago, where he reports that he is a substitute teacher in the Chicago schools. He sometimes teaches classes in the Cook County jails! His real love is his work outside of teaching - a project to synthesize music into graphic art. I have also received word that Kelley Fead and husband Gary Slack '76 have moved to Chicago. What are you doing, Kelley?
Phoning back toward the "Left Coast," I found Stan West at home in Culver City, Calif. He is starting a new job as a strategic planner with First Interstate Bank. Previously, he worked for seven years with North American Rockwell. (I can't believe we have been out of school long enough to have worked for seven years!) Stan gave me news of Rob Rose, who has recently started with Xerox, and Ron Ross, who is in California working for TRW's car division. Sheldon Caesar is reportedly very happy as a doctor in Chicago. Heather Wilson was home in Tempe, Ariz., but could not come to the phone as she was ill.
Bill Woods answered the phone in Palo Alto, where he is working on his physics Ph.D. at Stanford. Diane Boyer's answering machine was friendly but uninformative in Vail, Colo. Curt Conroy eluded me by having an unlisted phone in San Mateo, Calif.
