As most of you know, recent events in Hanover have drawn national attention. And in response to my requests for news, yours truly has received a number of nastygrams about the state of affairs on the Hanover Plain. Folks, our class column just isn't the forum in which to debate the political and social issues confronting our alma mater. Please feel free to barrage the editor of the Alumni Magazine with passionate prose, and when you drop me a line, remember that we're working on becoming a kinder, gentler nation. Read my lips.

Our class lawyers have been working hard. T.J. Crane has been named a partner in the firm of Rutan & Tucker in Costa Mesa, Calif. T.J. and Ellen have three sons, a golden retriever, a four-bedroom colonial house, and two Volvo wagons.

Last fall, T. Weymouth took a threemonth sabbatical from Hogan & Hartson to work on the Dukakis campaign in Michigan. Shortly after T. arrived on the scene, The Washington Post published an article about the local resentment in Michigan toward short, blond political carpetbaggers. T. reports that Mark and Suzanne Schneider live in Seattle, where Mark practices with the law firm of Perkins, Coie.

Douglas Verge recently became a member of the law firm of Sheehan, Phinney, Bass & Green in Manchester, N.H. His wife, Karen, a computer software consultant, has been leading tours to the Soviet Union.

Burr Gray has sold out to the private sector and has become a father. Burr left the EPA and joined the law firm of Andrews & Kurth. In August, Liz and Burr had a baby girl, Lindley Sarah. Liz has now returned to her practice at the SEC. Ever the media hound, Burr managed to get Newsweek to report both his career move and Lindley's birth. The article, titled "The Revolving Door," explored the problem of retaining talented lawyers in the public sector. During the interview, Burr explained that he had switched from prosecuting to defending polluters because he needed to cover Lindley's Dartmouth tuition.

Eric and Vicki Schnittger live in Smithtown, N.Y. Eric works for Grumman Aerospace and Vicki is a teacher; they have a two-year-old son, Douglas.

After reading my allegations about his pizza consumption, Bruce Bierman wrote me a note and even picked up the tab for the postage. Biers has accepted a position as assistant to the vice president of finance at Pless-Staufer, a Swiss corporation with its U.S. headquarters in Proctor, Vt. According to Biers, "All is well except the skiing so far is pretty poor, which is OK because I'm a pretty poor skier."

Another '79 has settled in Baltimore. Paul Centenari has purchased a company and relocated from Denver to Charm City. Yes, ladies, he's still an eligible bachelor; so if you're looking for a relaxed Southern lifestyle, complete with a lifetime membership in the local Playful Parenting Class, come on down. Mike and Charlotte McCarthy will have the welcome wagon party.
