Ed Brummer sent clippings from the February 1 Manchester Union Leader about the New Hampshire Parade of Champions Banquet honoring that state's top male and female athletes of the year. Presenting the Robert A. "Red" Rolfe Awards was Red's widow, Isabelle, who was looking mighty spiffy in a photo of the proceedings.
Help to my ego came a note from Al Bucher from KiTlington: "Thanks for the write-up of the old fossil, yours truly. Nice timing with the February dinosaur issue! Hope to make it to the 60th." Al made no mention, however, of doing any downhill on that beautiful slope shown on the postcard.
On March 8 I attended the forum in New York sponsored by the Alumni Council for discussion of trustee nominating and electing processes and related matters. Nine alumni, including me, who had previously submitted executive summaries of their presentations, made five-minute elaborations.
All differed —some considerably—with the recommendations of the draft report of the Committee on Trustee Organization. I have sent copies of my executive summary and of my five-minute elaboration to BillWendell.
Wally Thorsen was the only other '31 listed among the 100 alumni/ae attending, but I couldn't find him in the audience. I was the first (and the oldest) alumnus to make a presentation after an introduction by Council President Murry Bowden '71 and an update by Committee Chairman Sandy McCulloch '50.
The changes I proposed were substantial. Equally so were the changes proposed by others. There was plenty for discussion in the period following. How the committee will fit what came out of this forum into the final report to the Board remains to be seen. A full report undoubtedly will be forthcoming from Hanover.
In my view, this forum was the best idea Hanover has had in years. Hats off to those who conceived the idea and then brought it off!
I trust and hope that such assemblies on this and other issues will be held in the future at locations around the country, and that many of you will attend.
