Charlie Pierce called the other day to say that he was looking forward to being a grandfather for the first time in early December. Check your bank account, Charlie. Grandchildren, I have found, are more expensive than children! Charlie continues to live in Orlando, Fla., where he heads up the Florida State Hospital Association. He went on to say that he had just visited with DonKlages and Dan Varty while on a trip to the San Francisco Bay Area. Don continues to run his successful men's clothing store in Palo Alto, while Dan is teaching economics and political science at Canada College in Los Altos.
Bob Blair is now living in Littleton, Colo. If you are planning a ski trip to the Rockies this winter, give him a ring as you pass through Denver. Bob expressed a concern in our class survey that the president and trustees were taking the College away from a community with great teachers as well as traditions of excellence and spirit. The long-range plan for the College as contained in the Final Report of the Planning Steering Committee should serve to allay his fears as well as others of us. The recommendations concerning size, faculty, graduate schools, student life, the arts, and continuing education are right on the mark in the opinion of this writer. Copies are available from the Provost's office.
John Sherwood in the same survey noted that his son had graduated with the class of 1989. He commented, "Dartmouth, at least as represented by its students, has changed very little. The Dartmouth student has always been, and remains, a special kind of person shaped by the special place Dartmouth is."
Make sure you have June 15-17,1992,5aved on your calendars for our 35th Reunion. DickJacob and his committee are working on a great program for our time together.
Don't forget to let John Murphy and I know what you are up to this year or what is on your mind about Dartmouth. Like the New York Times, I shall print all the news that is "fit" to print, shades of Great Issues!
