Reunion Redux. Dartmouth was so much shinier than remembered it. The school looked too new. Maybe it was the new buildings, all that glass and finished marble. The Dartmouth in my memory was a litde messier, a little darker. The snow and mud. A sun not too interested in doing its job. Skies so gray they were mean. The blue sky they specially ordered for our weekend was kind of disappointing. Anyway, no one comes to Reunion looking for gray. And I didn't see or hear any.

Saw a big smile on Vaughn Halyard. Vaughn was usually smiling when we were in school. And why not? Varsity skier, great musician, cool way before it was cool to be cool. I understand Vaughn is a big deal at Sony Music in New York. And that he's married and lives in Connecticut.

Also wearing a smile in June was the gifted and pregnant Kim Young. She remains gifted. Danielle joined her brothers Hutch and Tyler on September 18 as the newest member of Menlo Park's "Kids Who Hate Sleep." Kim owns a company specializing in marketing communications. (She once used my voice in a radio commercial. Think I saw a cent?) Kim produces marketing materials for high-tech and financial companies, including those for the enigmatic John "Boo" Moragne's venture capital outfit, Trident Capital. John is a '79 and claims to be the father of all three of Kim's kids. Another 'Bl in the Bay Area who married an older Dartmouth guy is Su-Moon Paik. Su-Moon has two kids, Chet and Melanie. I believe she consults for software companies. She lives in San Francisco with her great-guy husband, Bobby Brown. Bobby is an 'BO and claims to be the father of all three of Kim Young's kids.

Positively beaming at Reunion was the former Miss Wisconsin, Lisa Fritz. Mayhe she was smiling because she was one week away from marrying some guy named Benjamin. Benjamin doesn't know this, but when we were in college, Lisa and I once made out. I'm not quite sure what Lisa does for a living—I think it's matters financial in Manhattan—I'll let you know when Lisa calls me to explain the word "delusional."

Not at Reunion but no doubt happy that weekend was my buddy, Willy Hill. Willy had just been made partner at the Boston law firm Mintz, Levin, Cohn, and Other Music Lovers. My people were feting Willy on Martha's Vineyard that weekend. Willy is married to the lovely Jane Adams and lives on a farm in Acton with their three children, Paige, Victoria, and Mac. At press date Willy's son is two days old. Mac is already active in the Democratic party.

I would offer you more news, but when I called Scott Stuart to get some, his wife told me that he wouldn't come to the phone because he had five minutes left on his exercycle. I was both hurt and depressed by that exchange. Scott's exercycle lives in Greenwich. That's Connecticut.

So everyone's doing great. All blue skies. Like Reunion, this column reflects the shinier side of our lives. I'm pretty lousy these days. I work 70-hour weeks for a television show that six people in America are watching. But my days, my very longdays, are often interesting. And O.J. was acquitted yesterday. He's two miles away. If I open my window I wonder if I can hear him laughing. Remarkable times we live in. Gray skies at best. Always something remarkable in the gray.
