Being aware of the Ides of March (when my editor shouts, "Hey, where's this month's copy?"), I find myself anxiously awaiting mid-May when you'll read this. It just snowed again here, for the umpteenth time. So, Happy Spring greetings! Had a note from Dan Schausten who lives in Cannon Beach, Ore. That's beautiful country, on the coast between Seaside and Arch Cape. I know; I looked it up. Dan hopes to make it to next fall's mini-reunion.

You may recall that some months ago I wrote about proposed treks to Alaska this summer. One, the wilderness canoeing, was being organized by Cul Modisette and Joe Medlicott. Joe's had to drop out because of Alumni College teaching duties, but Cul reports that the trip is on for August. The '50s who are going, in addition to Cul, are Glenn Fitkin, JacquesHarlow, Aaron Stevens, Herb Ray, JerrySmith, and John Weber.

The other trip is mine. My sons and I are going to do the Alaska Highway drive starting from Sandpoint, Idaho, some 2,500 miles. We have reserved a cabin at Denali (Mt. McKinley) National Park from August 6 to the 16 to use as a destination and a base for day-trips. Anyone who just happens to be passing by is welcome to share the cabin. Let me know.

Because of the whiz-bang job he did for our 45th, Bob Lindell has been asked to be chairman of our 50th Reunion and he has accepted. Any ideas for the Reunion and offers to help will be welcome. Bob and Pinky live at Olde Farms Road, Box 343, Grantham, NH 03753.

Not being able to get winter off my mind, I looked up (with envy?) the classmates who live in Florida. Some 40 of you list Florida as at least your primary address and that, coupled with the dozen or so I know visited this year, means that about 10 percent of the class was in Florida at some time this past winter. I still don't know whether there was a major get-together, but Joe and I have gotten reports of several small ones.

Please remember to let me know if one of your grandkids made it into the class of 2000, or if you know of a classmate's who did. That class will become more and more special to us as we approach our 50th, especially the grandchildren.

A nice note from Lee Sarokin says, "I cannot believe at my age when all of my classmates are retiring that I am starting a new job. However, I love the work and the challenge, although I miss the personal contact of a trial judge." As you may recall, Lee was appointed last year by President Clinton to the U.S. Circuit Court, the second highest court in the land.

Talk to you next time in the September issue.
