I am surprised! Not a single one of you followed my lead nor accepted mv invitation, in a recent DAM issue, to have published here news of your grandchildren's children's doings. So, on to less world-shaking news. Barbara and I are just off a good Hanover visit: the Dartmouth Leadership Weekend. It used to be called Class Officers Weekend and was held every spring. Now, it is expanded to include alumni clubs and associations and will be held every September. We all met togeth- er at several meals in the Leede Arena (basketball part of the gym), probably over 400 guys and gals. We also met in smaller groups like the Class Secretaries' Association, the reunion chairmen, etc. One highlight of the dinners was new President Jim Wright's first address to an alumni group; he'll be inaugurated at Convocation later this month. Everyone seems very high on Wright as president. I would characterize him as a fine administrator who has a deep appre- ciation and respect for the intellectual aspects of the College. He's been there for 29 years and has held many key positions: history prof, dean, provost, acting president (during Freed- man's cancer bout), and others. My guess is that he'll keep Dartmouth right up there in the top ten or so of U.S. colleges and universities. As to a sense of humor, Wright quoted Casey Sten- gall: "The sign of a good manager is the abil- ity to keep those who hate your guts away from those who are still undecided." Classmates and mates getting together included BobWilkinson, Margie and Fizz Nichols, Jan and Bud Gleasin Bill Carpenter, Sue and Len Matless Mar lene and Ed Tuck, and Karen and Dave Taylor. Spied lurking at one of the dinners was Fifty Joe, probably trying to steal a news item or two from me. A highlight of the weekend was a cocktail party hosted by the Gleasons at their son's beautiful house on Rope Ferry Road near Occom Pond. Don't forget to send in your card for attending the Florida bash on January 29-31, and call the Marriott to make a room reservation.
