To put it briefly, the College nixed the idea of placing a 1931 granite block anywhere on College property. From a newsladen card from Al Sutton, nowVa., excerpts include: "All well with wife Joan, myself, and our children and grandchildren; our daughter is within an hour's drive; be glad you are not subject to the TV news originating in D.C.; I find the WallStreet Journal a great antidote; basically Winchester is conservatively Democrat where even the barber doesn't believe the polls, because of the disgust with things in Washington; I'll be interested in seeing what the local numbers are after the November election; this retirement community to which we moved from Rhinebeck, N.Y., in late 1992, is sponsored by Episcopalians and Presbyterians, is solvent and expanding, and has a nearby high-quality medical center; apparently we have chosen wisely in deciding where to spend our retirement years; as for the decline in alumni/ae participation, I believe it's because we've become self-centered, me first, an oldfashioned depression needed?; golf nine holes once a week, but, like my mind, it's deteriorating."

Jean Ewing (Don) wrote that she had visited June and Ori Hobbs in Wolfeboro, NH 03894 in late August. June is in Sugar Hill Life Care and Ori in Huggins Hospital, both not well. Their daughter spends time often with them.

Sorry to report the loss of HenryAlmond on Aug. 3.
