Please forgive me for the incomplete column in the last issue. My computer must have been on the fritz because only half my column made it to the Alumni Magazine office. I apologize for not getting some of this news to you sooner.
Back in December, Andy Mac Donald wrote in with the wonderful news that he and his wife, Bonnie, just had their second child. Madelyn "Maddie" Ann Mac Donald was born on December 14,2001. She weighed 7 pounds and 12 ounces and was 20 inches long.
I also heard from Reed Salvatore, who wanted to take the opportunity to let us know what he has been up to recently. Reed and his wife, Dana, live in New Canaan, Connecticut. They have two beautiful daughters, Hayley Morgan (2 years old) and Julia Lauryn (6 months old). Reed works in Manhattan for ABN-AMRO, where he is the cohead of the listed equity trading desk. Reed keeps in touch with Josh Saunders and Luke Mclnnis, who are both doing well.
Brad Simanek proudly sent a picture of himself and his wife, Tricia, meeting then-Governor George W. Bush during the campaign in 2000. Brad has been working as an actuary at Griffith, Ballard and Cos. in Cedar Rapids, lowa, for six-plus years since getting his M.B.A. from the University of Chicago. Brad loves his job, finding it the perfect balance between responsibility and casualness. After 11-plus years of taking actuarial exams (sounds awful), Brad finally passed his last one in November.
Brad met Tricia in 1996 while she was attending Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids. Tricia is also from eastern lowa and they continued a long-distance relationship while she attended law school at Notre Dame. The two married in August 2001. They have two black cats, Bayliss and Pembleton, and a new beagle puppy, Isabelle.
I also received news all the way from Finland. Lynn-Marie Sederlof has been living in Helsinki since our fifth-year reunion. What started out as a one-year visit looks to be turning into a more permanent solution. Lynn-Marie finished her international M.B.A. this past June, which was incredibly useful to her given that her major at Dartmouth was biochemistry and she's been working in marketing since 1995. She works for Nokia, currently heading a segment marketing team focused on the finance and corporate (B2E) segments.
Lynn-Marie is also getting married to a Finn. She met Timo in her M.B.A. program and he popped the question during Christmas. Timo has never been to the United States, but LynnMarie plans to bring him to Hanover for our reunion. For those of you who remember Lynn-Marie's German shepherd, Vixen, both Vixen and her "brother," Maverick, are still alive and well, though going a bit gray around the muzzle.
Finally, Senator Alex Mooney called the other day. Although he called in the middle of a Maryland Terps basketball game, I was glad to hear from him. Alex is serving as a Maryland State senator from Frederick. Alex called with the good news that he has become engaged to Dr. Grace Gonzalez. Grace is a neurosurgical resident. The two look forward to a late summer wedding in Maryland.
Believe it or not, our 10 th (actually ninth) reunion is upon us. Let this upcoming reunion be an inspiration for everyone to send in updates. Hope to see many of you at the reunion.
