What? 35th Reunion (Advanced) When? June 15, 16 and 17 Where? Hanover, N. H.
The deadline for these notes was approaching fast with little hope for much material when Homer Tilton (bless his heart!) came through with a report on the Boston Alumni dinner, which I was unable to attend (and not because I was "inspecting some boiler out in Kakka Flat, New Mayhheko," as Homer surmised). Listed among the '25-ers seated together were: Pete Blodgett, Chet and Blanche Eaton, Johnnie and Drue Garrod, Ralph and Connie Thompson, Ken and Lyd Nugent, Woody and Frances Wilson, Ducky and Peg Washburn and Homer and Cousin Kay Tilton. Homer continued his report with:
There may have been other '25-ers present, but I doubt it. We sent several scouts around the foyer during the "social hour" but could locate no others. Don't know why I'm reporting this, except that I seemed to be quickest on the draw with my pencil when somebody remarked: "Gee, Eddie ain't here!"
As "Chairman" for the Annual Husbands-and-Wives get-together, I sounded out the boys (and girls) on this year's affair - particularly in view of the fact that this is also Reunion Year. Everyone seemed to think we should have the dinner just the same - sort of a Reunion Warm-up. Plans are tentatively set for May 8 at Hotel 128 (Route 128 at Route 1 South - Exit 57).
So you fellas within 100 miles of Boston or who expect to be in the area on that date should mark your calendar and plan to notify Homer when your decision to attend the affair becomes firm.
On a cold, raw, wintry day in January, your reporter, disinterested in struggling with skis on the icy slopes of Cranmore Mt., was wandering idly around the base when he was greeted suddenly by a sweet, young thing: "Oh - Mr. Pease!" and then after preliminary maneuvers: "I'm Kevin Sleigh." Kevin on leave from Smith had taken over Lewellyn White's place in Kearsarge, N. H., with six other girls pending arrival of mom and pop, Betty and Bill Sleigh, together with the youngest member of the family, Duncan, for the weekend. If they didn't enjoy the slopes, at least they had an opportunity to watch the Gibson Trophy race won by Tommy Corcoran. And during that same weekend who should appear on the scene but Lane Goss, who was with a group of bankers and realtors, convened for a business-social dinner at the Eastern Slope Inn.
We are grateful to a member of another class, Ernie Earley '18, for having reported the death of Brice Disque on New Year's evening; otherwise we would not have known of our loss. The details beyond those appearing in the In Memoriam section are unavailable. Also joining those of us who are gone but not forgotten was Roy Lanphear, whose obituary appears in the faculty section, Roy having served the college for 30 years.
The Ford Wheldens experienced the extremes of emotion in January. The first was near-tragedy when Bonnie, home for the holidays from her teaching position in Denver, was in a head-on auto collision enroute from a day of skiing at Cannon Mt. Five hours of surgery at Hitchcock Hospital, including performance by our own Rad Tanzer, proved successful and the patient is expected to be back in Denver before this appears in print. The second cause for emotion on a much happier note was a grandson presented by Roxanne, wife of Dr. Edward K. Isbey Jr. '51. Named Ford Douglas Isbey, he is already entered in the Class of 1981 and makes the sixth Whelden grandchild.
Congratulations are due our treasurer, Eddie Roessler for having been named by the Mendham (N. J.) Township Committee to serve a second one-year term as mayor. It is presumed he will continue also to serve as the town's fire chief.
John W.
