Paul Duffy of Sharon, Connecticut, has been appointed to director of communications by the Torrington Area Foundation for Public Giving. He was a freelance writer in New York and went on to become director of the Third Century Fund, Dartmouth's first capital gifts campaign. Paul currently writes a biweekly column that is syndicated in several New England newspapers.

Frank Gould just returned from N.Y.C. with several days sandwiched in at the Jersey shore: "I just don't know if I can take much more of retirement! Our Asia trip will include Japan, China, India, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia with R&R at a Thai beach resort south of Bangkok to close out the adventure."

President Ralph Manuel put together a nifty class project involving meetings with incoming class of 2008. His vision was for class of 1958 volunteers to get with these kids, off campus, and talk to them about their feelings, aspirations and questions that might aid their initiation into the Dartmouth community. The interaction, bringing 50 years of experience to bear, was greatly appreciated by the incoming students. It also was very meaningful for the first batch of'sB advisors, which included Pete Herman, Norm Sylvester, Joe Kabat, Dave Bradley, Ralph, Frank Gould and yours truly. The activity took place in September at the Second College Grant, way up in the boondocks near the Maine and Canada borders. Students and '58 "advisors" stayed in DOC cabins, enjoying the interchange with a BBQ. served up by the elders. It was certainly great to exchange perspectives and somehow these young men and women seemed much better prepared for their collegiate endeavors than we were, emotionally and academically. We hope our input strengthened this. Good luck, 2008.

From Dick Frisch: "I will be concluding my term as chair of the Hurricane Island Outward Bound Board during the first half of September. It has been a rewarding experience for me. I will be returning my full attention to Baltimore Chesapeake Bay-Outward Bound, which I helped start way back in 1986. This program focuses on urban kids who so need this type of experience."

Larry Weltin and Cack Bittner were among those Florida 'sBs to survive Hurricane Charley without incident.

We have learned through the College of the deaths of John Phillips (June 30), Donald Walker (June 1,2002) and Philip Webster (November 30, 2003). The class extends its condolences to the families of these men.
