Looking something up in our 1939 scrapbook, I stumbled upon this gem of mine, the lead article in the February 1939 DAM '32 column by one Edward B. Marks Jr.
Courage, men of shining pate!
Ye need not anticipate
Bach'lor hood as your sad fate
Chandlers found himself a mate
Throw away the Herbicide
Threatening ads may be defied
Lift your hat and show your hide
Chandler's found himself a bride
I The marriage date was February 17,1939,67- plus years ago. The "column" was more than two columns in the magazine. Now I'm limited to 250 words while classes 1978 to 2006 are allowed 600. I'd guess Ed's was close to 1,000.
Ginna, Bo Wentworth s widow, reports that so far she has been pretty lucky. She drives and does volunteer work. Her retirement place in Naples, Florida, is very pleasant, both the surroundings and the people. Dottie (Mrs. Howdy) Pierpont took a two-week trip to British Columbia and Alaska up the Inland Passage to Anchorage. I had a nice chat with the ever-jolly Don Marcus. Says he can't see, hearing is poor, right leg not much use but still enjoys the piano. He can't read music and can't see the keys but feels them. The result isn't Paderewski but his audience enjoys it, namely himself. He has very helpful neighbors; one pays his bills. An attendant takes care of breakfast and lunch, another for dinner.
We regret the loss of Hank Kingdon, Bill Lieson and Bill Allyn (age 98).
