The class of 1944 has had 12 presidents in its run up to its 65th reunion. All of them in addition to holding the office of president have served the College and the class in many ways—raising money, chairing the five- year reunions, acting as class agents, being on the Alumni Council and many other positions. Don Burnham was the first in line, 1944-1948. He was followed by Robert “Twitch” Miller, 1948-1959 and Bob McLaughry, 1959-1969. They each served two terms and were called secretary chairman. When Phil Penberthy took over the reins, 1969-1975, the title had changed to president. William Hale was elected and presided from 1975-1980. Ben Jones followed, 1980-1988. Next was Bill Craig, who resigned before his term was up. William Hale stepped up to the plate and filled in until 1994. In the year of that important milestone, the 50th reunion, Dick Whiting was president, 1994-1999. Eric Barradale held the top job from 1999 to 2004. Steve Tate took over in 2004 and had to resign because of ill health in 2005. Harry Morse filled in from 2005 to 2006. Bill McElnea was elected in 2006 and will preside over the grand 65th reunion. This is the last official reunion for the class, so plan to attend this great celebration of the great class of 1944.
We send our condolences to families and friends of Roger A. Antaya, Stephen Horner, P. Victor Morgan, David K. Patterson Sr. and Milton Simon Yondorf.
