'Tis the month of Valentines, Abe Lincoln, George Washington - and the marriage of Andy Timmerman.
Our spies tell us Andy finally succumbed to a charming miss named Lois Pyle from Paramus, N. J., with the engagement announced in November and a trip to the altar any time now. Lois is a Katherine Gibbs gal with New York ad agency experience. And Andy, these days, is in the driver's seat tor Caterpillar sales promotion in Peoria.
Down at Wesleyan University (Conn.) the dean oE freshman and one of his associates have hauled down a $5,000 federal grant to study what the average college student wants in a career — and what factors influence his selection. This is particularly interesting to '51's, for said dean of freshmen is none other than Don O'Dowd.
Christmas seems a long time back, but this is the first opportunity we've had to thank many of you for the Christmas cards which rolled in. Alex and Joan Sarjeant made their greeting simply a newsletter on the Sarjeants to all their friends — a novel and pleasing idea. From it, we learn that the family has moved from Levitlown to a big, comfortable home in Newtown, Conn. — smack in the middle of Alex's territory for Pelton and Crane dental suppliers. Also of note was the arrival of Dean, to join his four brothers and sisters.
From llie home with the charming address, Stove Pipe Road, Voorheesville, N. Y., Pete Frederick penned a Christmas nole of a third pair of pattering feet expected in March. Pete's one of these traveling men — eight of the last 17 weeks on the west coast, and this is apparently a normal thing. He's with General Electric.
Midwest '51's got detailed instructions on how to get to a Dec. 27 blast organized by Bob Bowler, Dave Hilton and Pete Henderson at Pete's home in Winnetka. We haven't heard the results yet - the Chicago press carried no riot reports — but there was a suspicious note in the nationwide weather table for Dec. 28: Winnetka was 10 degrees warmer than surrounding communities.
And speaking of Bowler, we have a hunch he's gone into real estate up there in Lake Bluff. He reports with straight face that Jim and Joan Culberson just settled there and that Chip Blomgren has a house deal "work ing." But right now, the Bowlers are more famous in another respect in those parts. Seems the baptism of one William Grier Bowler II was "one of the noisiest exhibitions in the history of the Episcopal Church." 'Twas witnessed by Godparents Herb Knight and the Hiltons.
