"The Navy Distinguished Public Service Award is hereby presented to Henry Salomon Jr. for his exceptional contribution to the public understanding of the history and mission of the United States Navy as the originator, author and producer of the National Broadcasting Company's television program entitled Victory At Sea.
"After his active naval service in World War II Mr. Salomon conceived the idea of preparing a history of the U.S. Navy in that conflict, utilizing the new visual medium of television. He successfully obtained the approval of the National Broadcasting Company and the support of the U.S. Navy. For two years he personally viewed over 60 million feet of combat film made available by the U.S. Navy and other government agencies as well as foreign countries. Mr. Salomon has through VictoryAt Sea intimately portrayed life and combat on the seas, under the seas and in the air, bringing to millions a better understanding of the role of seapower in World War II."
