Perhaps it is pardonable for your scribe to start with the statement that he is happy to be able to take over these notes again this month. After three weeks in the hospital, he is thankful to say that he is making good progress toward recovery and is taking an indefinite (hopefully not too long) leave of absence from his teaching assignments in Bloomfield College and Seminary.
Very interesting news of Percy Ladd, vigorous, active and keen in spite of accumulating birthdays. I quote a paragraph from a recent letter:
Personally my simple annals were varied this spring, May 18-July 11, by a trip to Europe. Originally planned as a walking trip through the Lake District with a friend, it turned into a group Cook tour to Switzerland, then an individual tour longer in Switzerland, then continuing to Venice, Florence, Rome, Siena, Genoa, Nice and Paris. Liverpool was the port both ways, Montreal at this end." I have written the travelog, calling it "An Innocent Abroad."
In the writing field Percy has the task of preparing a paper on the writings of notable men in his church, in connection with the observance of its centennial. Included are Pres. Buckham, contemporary of Prexy Tucker, and a professor of history, both of the University of Vermont.
Further, Percy has been helping a friend clear portions of a trail to the top of Mt. Mansfield. When this is done, Percy can say he climbed this mountain in his 77th year, his friend in his 85th.
A nice letter from Shirley Cunningham. He hopes to be with us for our 55th. He included an interesting letter from Eric Kelly '06.
