Last weekend Joan and I met the Class of 1963 - at least the nine members of that oversized freshman class who look to me for advice on course selections and other sundry items. We enjoyed a luncheon with them under the pines at our home, then, with our five-year-old daughter in the lead, took them up the trail to our favorite eagle's nest at the top of Velvet Rocks.
In my talks with these young men and through other contacts with this newest group of Dartmouth men, I have become more and more impressed with the real topnotch guys the College is attracting. They make a lot of noise at night — it carries all the way up our hill from the campus center - but, and I admit prejudice, I think they'll have to go a lot farther to match the spirit of '52.
