Let me put in a plug right here for this year's Alumni Fund drive. Many of us are now at least semi-settled in jobs and maybe this year we can come up with a few more bucks than we have in the past. Again, though, the most important thing is for everybody to take part and give something. Let's get it up!
A note from Bob Baker tells of excitement in Syracuse. Bob's wife, Barbara, presented him with a 9 lb., 4 oz. boy, Robert David, at 12:20 A.M., on New Year's Day. Naturally, little Bob was the first child of the year in Syracuse and there were many goodies for his parents. Besides getting coverage on the local TV stations the Bakers received prizes ranging from a $25 savings account to a case of corn beef hash. Senior Bob is at the University of Syracuse working as a graduate research assistant and hoping to get his Ph.D. in physics in June, 1965.
That Cleveland furniture magnate DennyGoodman has sent in a bit of news that's hard to believe —he plans to give up his care-free life as a bachelor. Since it is against my policy to report engagements, I won't go into details, but those of us who really knew Denny are truly numbed by his decision. Denny also supplied me with news of people he sees in his travels. He reports that: Hap and Joby Dunning are still in Boston while Hap is at Harvard Law School, and that Walt and Sarah Freedman (and two daughters) are living outside Chicago. Walt is with IBM.
Tim Holland was recently given quite a promotion at Grey Advertising in New York. He is now Account Executive on a major brand product of Procter and Gam- ble. The Hollands have two kids, Janice, 5, and Tommy, 3, and are expecting a third as we go to press. Axel Grabowsky is now living in Chicago. His division of the Kendall Company has been shifted from New York, so Axel will be in the Windy City for the next six to nine months. After that he will either go back to Boston or will be off on the international scene for Kendall.
Joe Mandel dropped from the bachelor ranks last year. His new bride is the former Jean Westerman, a 1963 University of Michigan graduate. Besides being a husband, Joe is also a brother-in-law to Herb Schoenberg '59, who married Jean's identical twin sister. The Mandels are residing in New Haven where Joe is finishing up law school. He claims the reason this year's basketball team is so poor is that they just don't have that good manager to make arrangements and see that the boys get the proper food before games. Joe, Doggie needs you back.
Ed and Shirley Sedivy are now with Uncle Sam, Inc. at Fort Monmouth, N. J. Ed got his law degree from the University of Montana last June. He reports that his buddy, Dune Mathewson is going to Archeological School in London.
I received a phone call the other day from Paul Godwin. He's living here in Minneapolis and we hadn't crossed paths. Paul's just about completed his work for a Ph.D. in Political Science at the University of Minnesota. John Kersey is now back at the U. of Minn. Medical School after spending six months overseas. He reports most interesting times working at a hospital in Sweden and traveling through Russia and Turkey.
Here are some quick notes about some of the boys in and around New York City Don Weitzman is a judicial clerk in New Jersey. AI Friedman is practicing law some place in the Big City itself. Ken Seslowe is at the Einstein Medical School. And Ken Seigel is looking into mouths at Columhia Dental School.
Word has just been received that HowieFrankel was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha National Honorary Medical Society at Bos ton University School of Medicine. Howie's in his last year there and is also the proud papa of a daughter, Alison Lee, who was born last October 10.
I guess that will do it for this edition Let's not forget to help out as much as possible on the alumni fund.
