Greetings to all classmates, their wives, and widows and best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year, 1966.
"Remember the Maine." Remember? Well, Leon Sprague has a collection of celluloid lapel pins and buttons which turns back the clock to a time in American history when the names of heroes now forgotten were on the front pages of the newspapers and on the lips of a worshipful public in 1898. Under celluloid jackets appear likenesses of President McKinley, Admiral George Dewey, Admiral William T. Sampson, Capt. George D. Sigsbee (commander of the Cruiser "Maine" when it was destroyed by an explosion in Havana with a list of 200 American seamen), Gen. Fitzhugh Lee and other military leaders whose suns have set behind the hills of time. The New Britain, Conn., newspaper "Observer" has recently carried the story under the title: "Button Collection Recalls Spanish-American War." It is very interesting.
