Just a few more weeks to answer the call and return some of that correspondence to the College. Let's all put that contribution in the mail this week.
If you're wondering how to get those tickets on the fifty-yard line at Harvard Stadium next fall, just drop a card to Mike Slive. Mike has been named assistant director of athletics. A double celebration is in order as Mike and Liz Rapaport have announced their engagement. Liz is the sister of AlRapaport.
Speaking of Al, he was in attendance at the New York Alumni Fund Dinner, and he and Bill Pierce sent on a report of activities there while teaming up with Carl Jaeger,George Haubner, Jack Fitzgibbon, FredCook, Bob Katz, and Ed Falkenberg. Bill stated that all appeared to be very well and quite prosperous. However Bill adds that Ed looked a bit weary on the subway one morning, but attributed that to Ed's new employer, Seagrams.
Bill is still pushing pencils along with Carl Palmer for the Chemical Bank New York Trust Company in the Special Industries Division. Must be a quiet place!
Bill also sent on some news he received from Hugh Gregory. Hugh is busy keeping students off the administration steps at Princeton Day School. Normally Hugh keeps occupied teaching, coaching and handling college admission. Hugh and Mimi expect number two child this summer.
The big news is that Jack Ladd got hitched in Feb. as Louise Markmald had the right number. She has been described as spectacular. Perhaps Jack could fill us in on that. Guess that only leaves Chuck Preuss from that SAE group.
Jim and Gretchen Morse are awaiting the arrival of an heir apparent as Jim toils as Editor in Chief of the Boston University Law Review. My thanks to Hugh for the news and to Bill for sending it on.
From the West came a long and enjoyable letter from Yon Beebe. After leaving Hanover, Von picked up his Master's at Columbia Teachers College and set up his black board at his old high school in Bronxville, N.Y. Three years ago, Guns packed the chalk and eraser and headed West and now is employed by the Los Angeles City School System as a Spanish teacher and a guidance counselor with special emphasis on the educationally deprived children. Von is heading back to New York where he will return to Columbia to enter the doctorial program for secondary educational administration.
Von spends his time on the beach while domiciled in Manhattan Beach where his social life consists of, among other things, playing rugby. Recently he was flattened by a burly creature and was startled to find Carl Funke on top. Carl is working in California now and participates in quiet beach parties along with Von and Al Huck. However it will soon be a twosome as Al is headed down the aisle shortly.
Thanks to Von also for sending on word of John Hust who was wed in April following a few parties given by Mike Coffield and others. How about a follow up on that?
Another sun worshiper to head west is Al Greenbaum. Al is watching the cactus grow in Temp, Ariz., where he takes advantage of an NOEA Grant at Arizona State University attending an Institute in Elementary Counseling and Guidance. Al had been teaching in New York, but hopes to get into guidance programs out west. Al and Sharon are converted Westerners and welcome all Dartmouth men at 2113 S. Granada Drive.
Still another '62 to find happiness in the sun is Max Rubin who patches up the Marines at Camp Pendleton in California as a Battalion Surgeon for the Navy. Max and recent-bride Carol are beaching it up in Oceanside, Calif.
Anytime you get lost wandering around Scranton, Pa., drop in and see Mike Peters in Tunkhannock, Pa., where he's starting up a new paper mill for the Charmen Paper Products Co. Mike, France, Wendy and Scott look forward to having lots of company, so don't disappoint them.
Still another military doctor is young Dave Bishop who has an active practice with the U.S. Army in Viet Nam. The reasons for our involvement in Viet Nam notwithstanding, the military medical personnel have been truly outstanding. I have a very healthy respect for Dave and all other milit ary doctors serving in Viet Nam, and thank them for their splendid efforts which saved my younger brother's life following a severe wound received in the Mekon Delta. I'm certain that many others share my feelings on this. While in Viet Nam, Dave leaves the Mrs. home in Philadelphia with father E.H. Bishop '34.
Well, this marks the end of another year of service. Enjoy your summer and if you're traveling through New England, please look us up.
