One of the most pleasant fringe benefits for the Class Secretary is the Class Officers' weekend in Hanover on the first weekend of May every year. This provides a chance to catch up on activities at the College, to talk with administrative people, faculty, students, old and new acquaintances, and the opportunity to hear President Kemeny. We came away impressed by the new president, reassured about the majority of students, and with a renewed conviction that Dartmouth's future is in good hands both as regards the administration and the undergraduates. If you have doubts about Dartmouth's future we would recommend a discussion with the students. As President Kemeny said they are "... concerned, conscientious, and highly impatient..."

It was good to talk with John and Barbara Van Raalte. John was planning to stop in Exeter, N. H., on the way back to New York, to see John Jr. who is at the Academy. Pete and Anne Foster were up from Waiiingford, Conn. Pete has expanded his interest in Vermont real estate to include real estate brokerage. He lists Vermont property and is "Specializing in Vermont Investment Properties." Pete and family attended Alumni College last summer and he was most enthusiastic about this experience.

Russ Carlson was able to get over from Syracuse, N. Y. Russ was recently elected to the Board of Directors of the Onondaga County Savings Bank. We asked him about other activities, but these will have to go unrecognized as my good wife "cleaned" out my suitcase which included my notes.

Ned McLaughlin has a new job but is still in San Francisco. He has joined the First Sierra Corporation as vice president and national sales manager. The firm manages the highly successful First Sierra Fund. During the past four years he has served as one of two regional sales vice presidents of the Tsai Management and Research Corporation. Before moving to the West Coast he was vice president of Chase Distributors Corporation of Boston.

Gordon Noe was recently elected to the Town Council in Brunswick, Me. Gordon is a sales representative and has been in business in Brunswick for twenty years. Among other activities he has served as chairman of the Brunswick Planning Board, and is presently a director of Brunswick Development Corporation. Gordon and Elizabeth have three children, sons, 22 and 18, and a daughter, twenty.

Bud Gedney, a vice president of McCann-Erickson, Inc., New York City, was good enough to drop us a line as he felt one of the recent columns indicated a lack of "news." One of the few times Bud has been guilty of an understatement! Bud was at the New York dinner at which President Kemeny spoke and met a good representation from '48. Lloyd Krumm, Lou Perry, Bud Elliott, Alan Epstein, Fran Hummell, John Hatheway, and Jim Schaefer. Bud said they were the youngest looking alumni at the meeting and there "... wasn't one who couldn't go 60 minutes!" He neglected to say 60 minutes at what. Bud's boy Chip will be class of '74. Chip has been at Mercersburg Academy in Mercersburg, Pa. Two other '48 sons have also been accepted from the same school, Jack Leisure's son and Bob Bergan's son, Jeff. Chip and Jeff have been prep school Ail-American swimmers for two years so that should help the athletic situation at the College.

This is the time of year class secretaries sigh audibly in relief - vacation is here until September. In the meantime, next year's notes would be sparkling with choice news items, wit and humor if each one of you would let me hear from you. It would be worth a try! If you are "down" this way during the summer let me know - summer is one of Maine's four best seasons!
