I guess I can say with some degree of confidence that spring has reached New England. The golf courses in the immediate area of Vermont have actually turned a greenish tint. This normally indicates that spring has arrived. However, cautious granite staters refuse to plant their tomatoes until the Boston Bruins sew up the Stanley Cup series with the pesky New York Rangers.
Bostonians are experiencing the annual student protest marches that have been symbolic of the season ... and sandals have been replaced by bare feet on Commonwealth Ave.
Panty and Bra raids are old hat, for the Women's Lib movement prevents the snatching of undergarments that are no longer used by the brother-girls housed at the local or area schools.
From the land of eternal sun we hear the Pacific Holding Corporation, Board of Directors has named Bert Diker president and chief executive officer of the corporation. Bert is an investment and management consultant. He was formerly vice president of the New York Stock Exchange firm of Bernard Aranson and Company, Inc. and previous to that operated several private businesses. Congratulations, Bert.
Louis Zehner of 555 Huston Road, Radnor, Pa., was picked for a five year term on the Township Municipal Authority. The five member board is responsible for the financing of township-owned building improvements, especially parking lots. Louis is also president of Radnor, LTD, a leasing and management firm.
Reverend Elmer Sullivan threw his hat into the New Jersey political ring this year as an independent candidate for the State Senate. Rev. Sullivan of Roselle said that he is attempting to make the major parties face issues that he feels they will not raise in their campaigns.
This is not the first venture into politics for Elmer. In 1968, he served as a delegate for Sen. Eugene McCarthy of Minnesota who was seeking the presidential nod, at the Democratic National Convention. Elmer was a member of the Union County Democratic Committee in .1970 and 1971. He is serving as chairman of the Union County New Democratic Coalition. Elmer and Jean have two lovely children Jonathan, 3, and Elizabeth, 1. Keep punching, Elmer!!!
Sam Daniel has announced his candidacy for a position on the local school board. Sam and Sandra have five children, Christopher, 17; Mark, 16; Stephen, 14; Brian, 12; and Zia, 1. Sam is currently with the Nashua Corporation as corporate manager of Data Processing.
Sandy Wiper is polishing a new American Optical Binocular Microscope. This accompanied an award from the National Association of Biology Teachers which named him Massachusetts' Outstanding Biology Teacher. He has been a member of the Newton High School faculty since 1960, and is now on a sabbatical, preparing a marine biology curriculum for high schools. Sandy recently served as regional chairman of NASTA's Skylab Project. See you next column, gang.
