Unhappily, we relate the passing of two classmates. Phil Wentworth died on December 21, after battling a six-month illness and JockoVincens died on January 23.
On a lighter note, Bert MacMannis speaks of running into Bob Timbers and his wife at a wedgjn Darien, Conn., in January. Bob is still working hard for IBM, but apparently squeezes enough time to spend a portion of the summer at their fine home in Nantucket.
Bob Cushman is back in the news again this month having just been elected a director of Houghton Mifflin Company. As you know from Previous notes, Cush is president and chief executive officer of the Norton Company, Worcester, Mass. He is also an overseer of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Old Sturbridge Village. He is a past president of the Dartmouth College Club of Worcester County and is active as a trustee or director of a number of Massachusetts financial, civic, and, cultural institutions.
We were pleased to see a cover picture on the January Beta Theta Pi magazine of MoreauBrown, presenting an official set of New York State Bicentennial medallions to a fellow Dartmouthite, former Governor of New York and current Vice President, Nelson Rockefeller '30. (Cut of which ran in October Alumni Mag.)
Brownie, a former general secretary of the national Beta Theta Pi fraternity, is a current vice chairman of the Bicentennial Council of the 13 original states, and vice president of the Council for Financial Aid to Education, located in its New York offices. Cici, his wife, is an antiques appraiser for Shinglehouse in Chappaqua, New York. Their son Moreau is a tennis pro in Ossining, N.Y. Daughter Christopher lives in Berkeley, Calif., is married, and has a daughter called "Miggins." Second daughter Pamela lives in Paris, is married, and has two daughters, Camille and Fleur. Third daughter Mallory is also married and is currently attending college in Berkeley with her husband. That then gives us a complete roundup on the J. Moreau Browns.
From some impeccable source, which for the moment escapes us, we can report that Robb andPat DeGraff were in Florida recently where they were scheduled for some competitive golf with Joe and Peggy Batchelder.
And talking about Florida, by the time you read this, your secretary will also have enjoyed the soothing warmth of Palm Beach sun as a means of recuperating from what appears at this writing to be a successful disc operation.
