It is said that a good liberal-arts education, particularly at Dartmouth, prepares one.for a lifetime of accomplishment in a variety of endeavors, both civic and business. This point was called to mind as I was looking over the recent activities of four of our classmates. Besides their success in their given fields, their diverse activities add luster to the reputation of Dartmouth and the class of '47.

Dave Squire has been named to the Board of Trustees of Brandeis University, after retiring from a successful business career at the age of 40. Dave was deputy director of the Job Corps, a member of the U.S. mission to the United Nations, and a vice president of Brandeis University when he retired again last year. Currently he is a director of Stanmar, Inc., and the Charles River Breeding Laboratories. He is also vice chairman for major gifts in New England for the Campaign for Dartmouth College and active in many other civic and charitable organizations. He and his wife Pat are the parents of seven children and four grandchildren.

Dick Hollerith, an industrial design consultant, has been appointed second vice president of the National Center for a Barrier Free Environment. This organization provides programs to promote and assist in the creation of physical facilities that are accessible to persons with disabilities. Dick is a member of the President's Commission on Employment of the Handicapped. He is also past president of the Industrial Design Society of America and a former vice president of the International Council of the Society of Industrial Designers. Currently he is an elder of the Presbyterian Church of Upper Montclair and president of the West Essex Rehabilitation Center.

Roland M. Routhier has been appointed president of Texaco-Canada, Inc. Previously he has been vice president of Texaco, Inc., in charge of the supply and distribution department. Roland joined Texaco in 1949 and has worked in Angola, Ivory Coast, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Moracco, Rome, Brussels, and New York City. Roland must hold the 1947 record for working in the most foreign countries.

Al Bildner was recently honored by the New Jersey region of the National Conference of Christians and Jews for his contributions to improving human relations and his dedication to promoting harmony through intergroup relations. A1 is president of Kings Supermarkets and active in many civic and philanthropic organi zations in New Jersey. Congratulations to all four for their past and present contributions to society.

That's it until next month.
