Greetings, friends! It's Christmas time.

The muse is weary; hence no rhyme. With Reaganomics it's been travail To chase the order, make the sale. Joyeaux Noel! Let's not be solemn. We've lots of news in the column.

Fran L'Esperance's wife Ellen threw a surprise 50th birthday party for him this summer. I'm not sure, but I think he is the youngest member of our class , which means that we have come to the end of that particular era. It was a gala affair. Among those present were classmates John Corcoran, John Kingsland, Bill Vital is,. Bill Beutel, Phil Beekman, Nick Haagort and Bob Callender.

The William and Mary game at Williamsburg in early October encouraged many to combine it with a vacation. Jack and Anne Newton and kids did the whole Skyline Drive. Larry and Joan Lewis came from Winnetka. Warren and Nancy Wentworth drove down from Pittsburgh. Ken Snell and his daughter were on a college-looking trip.

During this past fall term, we've had a vested interest in the sports scene. Unfortunately, both Jimmy Bloomer and Rich Lena were injured and out for the season before the opening football game. But Mike Lena has been a standout on defense at nose-guard. And Eddie Simpson played on the specialty teams. Mayo Johnson's son Ken was captain of the sailing team, which placed sixth in the Ivy League championships. Peter Blum and Tom Bradley were in the weekly rugby mayhem. And Gus Allen's daughter Leslie was a cheerleader.

During the Harvard weekend, the alumni marching band presented a check for $10,054 to the College to establish an endowment fund in honor of retiring band director Don Wendlandt. Both Don Goss and John Kennedy were "instrumental" in raising the money, which will be used to purchase new band instruments, to fund music scholarships, and, in general, to provide a source of support for the band program at Dartmouth. Don and John looked pretty snappy in their green blazers and white ducks.

Put and Marian Blodgett's cocktail party after the Harvard game was held in their new condo at Berrill Farms. This is a development just outside of Hanover that Put is doing with Trumbull-Nelson. Well over 100 people were there thoroughly enjoying themselves and savoring the exciting game. Among those classmates we haven't seen for a long time were Lee and Peter Wagner, Kay and Wayne Hansen, Marian and Fred Whittemore, Dave Replogle, Jim Steubner, Dick McCostis, Jay Montgomery, Martha Stiles, Don Bigham, John Peterson, Karl Zimmerman, and Anna and Tom Bradley.

Big news announced during the weekend is that we are going to have a mini-reunion this August on Nantucket hosted by Nan and Al Collins. Details will be released shortly.

It hasn't been a good year for hips. I've just learned that last spring Al Hathcock fell and broke his while attending an orthopedic meeting in Las Vegas. How's that for irony? Al and Barbara live in Fort Smith, Ark., where he is an orthopedic surgeon in a large, multi-specialty clinic. He is also an associate professor at the University of Arkansas and is active in church and Boy Scout activities.

Once again, friends, Season's Greetings! Plan to make our mini-meetings. May '83 bring you much pleasure, Expectation, and full measure; A peaceful heart, a happy home. Though round the girdled earth theyroam . . .
