In this organized chaos I choose to call a life I occasionally misplace an item or two. While at Dartmouth this trait enabled me to develop the ability to conjure up outlandish and bizarre excuses at the drop of a hat. But since you can't grade me on my performance except by not reelecting me, I will now open the door on the "Better-Late-Than-Never" department.
From the wedding circuit, Scott and Sheila Bodwell will soon be celebrating their first anniversary. The two were married last October and are living in Brunswick, Maine, where Scott is an engineer.
Jim and Mary Ellen McKenzie also tied the knot in late '87. Both are doing the law thing in Philadelphia where they graduated from Penn's law school. Jim also picked up a degree from Wharton in his spare time.
I guess you probably won't make it to James Mott's exhibition entitled "Industry and Environment" at Tioga ArtSpace in Oswego, N.Y. The exhibit ran in January. When not being an exhibitionist, Jim serves as visiting artist at schools in the Rochester area and at Monroe Community College.
On the job front, Sterling Champ is an assistant vice president for Vantage Realty Services in New Jersey. Is an assistant vice president the same as a vice vice president? I guess that would be too many vices and we know Sterling doesn't have too many of those.
Just because I hadn't written about him in this space, Tom Burack went out and had his bio written up in the Virginia Law School Report. A list of Tom's accomplishments would continue into next month's column so suffice to say that he has continued to be a champion for truth, justice, and the American environment. Tom reports that he has been joined at UVA Law by Steve Keim, Rob Conley, and Linda Papst. He ran into Herb and Cindy Boynton at the top of Vail Mountain, one of his more common meeting points. Herb's New Hampshire phone business is doing well. Tom also reports that Sarah Melcher is "climbing the ranks at Colorado National Bank ana singing with the Denver Opera and church choir." I wish these people would try to keep busy.
Before my fraternity brothers hang me, let me report on a couple of Alpha Chis. Ted Trabue is buzzing around the streets of Washington on his 1976 BMW 750. As he puts it, "Life takes on a different perspective when you are exposed to the world on a motorcycle and doing 90 MPH down the interstate." Ted admits to working every day although he is hesitant to say where. He will admit that it's in the same building as Richard Phipps III.
Jared Smith is exposing his sensitive skin to the sun and fun of California, working as a lawyer in the Bay area. Much of J-Red's correspondence was classified information but he did mention playing hockey nearly every weekend in San Jose. Chip and Phillipa Hankins were married in Mexico in June and headed to Toledo for their honeymoon. Now there's a normal couple. The slow-paced lifestyle in San Francisco will be hard to adjust to after that.
Finally, I received a note from John Faucher, who had just returned from a family reunion in France. "Every seven years, the people of Aureil bring out the skulls of their local saints, Gaucher and Faucher, for a parade through town. About 4,000 people, including 16 American members of the family, attended this year. I got to meet dozens of French relatives, all at least ten generations removed, and served as the family's press spokesman, giving interviews to the focal papers and radio in French. Dartmouth's language programs do come in handy." Believe it .... or not.
