Our first year as Florida presidents has been interestling, with visitations by a series of our northern friends and a Florida twister that knocked down our pool cage as well as those of four of our neighbors. Fortunately the insurance company didn't depreciate the damage since we had only been in our new home less than three months.
My golf handicap hasn't improved much yet even though I am playing three to four times a week as these courses have most of the holes with water hazards and I haven't learned how to avoid all of these as yet.
The winter mini-reunion was attended by a group of hardy souls and took place the week following Carnival which, by the way, turned out to be one of the fifth warmest weekends on record. The statue melted some. While my reporter may have missed some in attendance, my notes indicate the following: Vailand Barbara Haak, Punchy and DorisThomas, Bull Moose and Winnie Stearns,Bob and Margo Nutt, Burt and CarolProom, Al and Joyce Wagner, Alan Brooksand Beth Griffith and daughter. This group had the pleasure of seeing one of the four wins of the basketball team and attended a party hosted by Punchy and Doris.
When you are reading this column there will be only a few weeks left to support this year's Alumni Fund, and, for those who began a collection of Dartmouth glasses etched with our class numerals, you have a chance to add to the collection or maybe begin a new one because of the offer being made by our head class agent, Irl Marshall. All it takes is a contribution of at least $110 or 10% more than you gave last year. I can attest to the fact that they are a handsome addition to my bar, and what a deal to help the College and win an award as well.
Irl tells me that his place for fun in the sun is Carefree, Ariz., where he spends one week each month in their condo. Already a proud grandfather, he is awaiting his third grandchild and looking forward to a family reunion of children and grandchildren to join Irl and Barbara in Arizona.
Another person headed to Arizona in April is President Vail Haak. He and Barbara will be taking courses at the University of Arizona because of a program sponsored by Elder Hostel. He then plans on a visit to a daughter in Nevada.
Once again I am asking for some kind classmate to help with reports for this column. How about dropping me a note about yourself or one of your classmates before you get busy with summer activities.
