Ken Montgomery had heart surgery October 9 double bypass and replacement of the aorta valve. All went well. At last report in late October he was doing well in recovery. We wish him the best!
The mini went off well on October 17. Present were Ellie, Radford, Gertrude, and Scoof. Larry was busy with dedication in Dick Hall's House. Radford entertained us with bountiful cocktails. Ellie spoke again, pleadingly, about developing a class project, preferably one promoting nursing as a profession in the Upper Valley. Let's support her. After Radford's cocktails we went to the North Country Sheraton for dinner. It was very pleasant, even if it was interrupted by an incessant fire alarm. We were evacuated for a period, but we saw neither flames nor smoke.
Ellie had exciting news: her grandson Daniel won first place in fencing in Massachusetts, thereby qualifying to compete in Kansas to get into the Summer Olympics. Congratulations to you both. Granddaughter June is still intent on going to Dartmouth and entering a medical career. She has taken up the flute, and Ellie hopes June will accompany her bell choir.
Marian Abel and Fran Zahn spent a month in Hanover in September and October. Larry was delighted to take them to dinner.
The Harvard game was exciting as always. Very sorry to miss Pete Blodgett and DonHunt, though I know they were there and I looked hard for them. I sat with Bob Lawrence, son-in-law of Syd Hazelton, who died in 1990. Pleasant meeting. Jim Martin, Pike, and Line in next letter.
Thought for the month: How good the sun will feel in the winter!
