Summer is a splendid season and one that I trust has been healthy and enjoyable for all. But now fall fast approaches—another dramatic season and one that you all can take advantage of by returning to Hanover on September 24 for our '94 mini reunion. Make your affirmative decisions now!
Henry McDuff, Gil Tanis, and Jim Chandler with wives and yours truly spent the first weekend in May attending Class Officer's Weekend. The weekend was very worth- while, indicating to all that the College is in good hands and continues moving in the right direction. As you read and study the results of the recently completed Dartmouth College Alumni Survey you will also agree. The campus was never more beautiful, with green grass everywhere. Main Street has new wide sidewalks, and for once no empty store fronts. The Gap was readying a move into Campion's old location. I've never seen the entire area so bright and clean.
Bob and Phyllis Pollack celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary (congratulations) by taking a cruise from San Francisco to Hong Kong. On board they unexpectedly met and spent time with John Meachem's widow, Tex. Bob also tells of visits from Ash Lans, with wife Peggy Clancy, and Fran Reilly. Bob, already an author of many surgical books, succumbed to the urgings of his publishers and is now composing his autobiography, to be completed in the not-too-distant future. "Dartmouth comes in for a major chapter... naturally in most laudatory terms. That's where the pre-med started."
I regret to report the deaths of three classmates, Herm Holt, Rod Washburn, and Lou Van Dike. Our sympathies go to their families.
Chick and Joan Mock received CARE's International Humanitarian Award in June. "In recognition of your and Dr. Mock's vision and accomplishments in promoting crosscultural understanding, working in East Africa and serving as role models for individual citizens who want to make difference, we would like to honor you, and, posthumously, your late husband with CARE's first Midwest International Humanitarian Award." Joan accepted this award at a special reception at the Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs in Minneapolis.
I close with a quote from Jack Benny: "Age is strictly a case of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter."
