I know that when I was a stu- dent at Dartmouth—and even in the years after we all departed fair Hanover—that there were people who were convinced that someday I would marry Sarah Pettus. Well, the joke is on you. However, I was lucky enough to be in attendance as Sarah tied the knot with Troy Baisden '93 at the Moosilauke Ravine Lodge on August 17. It was a very distinctive ceremony, as those of you who know either of them can imagine, but in keeping with the gorgeous day it was unforgettable. It was great to see a bunch of Dartmouth people together again, including numerous '92s—let me see if I can remember them all: Dana Johnson and her husband, Salem, came up (sans daughter) from Baltimore; Jen Koop, who was in the process of searching for employment in the medical field but living at home in the Upper Valley for the summer; Eagle Glassheim, who's taking a sabbatical from his professorship at Princeton to go with his dog Coqui to Germany for the year; Nicole Clausing, who's living in Oakland and working for Travelocity.com; and, of course, Stephanie Tuxill, who did not provide me with much news because she promised to write (now you're officially on the clock, Steph). Is that it? If I missed anyone, let me know. Sarah and Troy, meanwhile, have headed back to New Zealand, where they are living these days.
There are a couple of other weddings to report. Christine McCann was married in December 2001 to Chris Jennings. A trio of '92s were bridesmaids: Courtney Dickinson, Wendy Gruenberg and Danielle Tornello Dean. There's a chance Chris and Christine will be celebrating their first anniversary in the hospital—Christine is due with their first child in December 2002!
On June 22 Katherine Bootle Attie was married to Alexander, you got it, Attie in Atlanta (so that explains her absence from our reunion! I was wondering). Laura Phieffer was one of Katherine's attendants, and Meredith Benedict was also in attendance (get it? attendants and attendance? Wait, you'll see why I did that soon). After a honeymoon in Tuscany, Katherine moved to Alexander s hometown of Paris—France, not Texas—where he is a senior portfolio manager with the Bank of France. Katherine, on the other hand, is learning the hard way that her high-school French was not quite on the level, and at the same time continuing to pursue her Ph.D. in English from the University of Virginia.Yup, that's right people, she couldn't learn French when she was in America, so she went to France to continue studying English. Now that is smart. At the same time I, who struggled to earn a bachelors degree in English at Dartmouth, now amuse myself by putting Alexander, Attie and Atlanta in the same sentence, and following it up with my attendants/attendance humor. A Ph.D. in its own right, you might say: "Pretty horrible, Dude."
One of the benefits of turning in your Class Notes a day late is that every now and then you get news on that very day. Thus, I can add a report that Holly Johnson-Colt and her husband, Ross, were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Lauren Faith Colt, on August 13 in Tacoma, Washington. In the photo they sent me, Lauren was resplendent in her Dartmouth robe. Congratulations!
