Steve Farnsworth, assistant professor of political science, has a special interest in the media and politics including the political impact of mass communication. He sends an announcement of his recently published book, The Nightly News Nightmare: NetworkTelevision's Coverage of U.S. Presidential Elections, 1988-2000. No small task, analyzing the content of more than 5,800 network campaign stories and 9,500 campaign items! Just a few hours in front of the computer, I'd say. To counterbalance his desk-time, Steve is part of a democratization and journalism project funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development, and recently back from a journalist training mission in Ukraine. Now there's a profession that covers both ends of the spectrum for you.
Ted Demopoulous reports that he, his son and expectant wife vacationed this past summer in Scarborough, Maine, with Molly Wender' 84 and Rick Bercovitz '82. They were joined at various times by classmates Igor Sikorsky, Tim Emanuel, Jeff Silberman, Timon Maloy, John Rogers and John Dodge. Ted delighted in the lobster and champagne drinking...which it seems may have had some effect on what information he took away from the vacation! The nitty-gritty consists of: "Everyone seemed well and happy...and John Dodge, along with Brian Thompkins, is planning to start a gourmet vegan restaurant a short walk from downtown Hanover." Ted, hope your expected has arrived, and is healthy and rarin' for a trip to Hanover this spring!
