Ah, remember Winter Carnival 1979? The Richardson guys were building a snow "sculpture" to the sounds of Blondie's ParallelLines. Next door, Wheeler had the best ice locomotive ever made. Sigma Nu had...well, you know what they had. It was so cold, the high for the weekend was 12 below. It was 35 below when we went to watch the ski jumping on the golf course. Were we really that hardy? Here's hoping your winter has been white, but milder. Tom Lane writes with some great updates. Tom's wife, Paula, is playing hockey with a team appropriately called Mothers on Edge. Betsy Leggat plays on the team along with Carla Small '84. Tom coaches baseball and helps with basketball. Kurt Hofmann recently relocated his family and surgery practice to Vidalia, Georgia. It is believed that he spends his time golfing and growing onions! He spends lots of his free time at his retreat in Maui. He greatly enjoyed returning to Hanover. Tom Shanahan recently had his first child with his wife, Susan! He made it up to reunion for one day and as always had a good time. Todd Markman made it to Hanover with his wife and two children from Minnesoooda and toured New England afterwards. Winky Stearns Hussey writes: "Peter and I are well into year 14 in Seattle. I substitute teach at the kids' school often, have volunteered in the classroom forever and have been on the PTA board for many years. Peter has moved from Microsoft, where he was for just shy of 10 years, to a start-up here in Seattle that was then bought out about two years ago. Our main extracurricular activity—besides sports up to our eyeballs—is travel. Forget the fancy car or big chunky diamond—we get on planes. Most recently we toured Europe in a rented Peugeot boxer van and spent 74 days and 10,600 kilometers exploring mostly France and northern Italy. You may recall it was about 110 degrees in Europe this past summer. There we were—sweltering away— but loving the food and vistas and tour de France on TV and all that family time with Luke (14), Duncan (12) and Clarkie (10). We hope to get back someday. The kids insist it will never be for 10,000 kilometers or 74 days ever ever again but we came back to Seattle still liking each other a lot and with a trunkload of memories."
