Around the girdled earth we'll roam, from our own backyard on the Hanover Plain to the summit of Mt. Kilamanjaro!
We'll start locally, where Kevin Peterson was just named executive director of the Upper Valley Community Foundation. Kevin and wife Vicki Smith '78 keep up with Tom Burack and wife Emily and two children, and he plays in a men's hockey league with Sandy Kelsey. Sandy is known locally as "Pesty" for his quick and determined fore checking style. John Cavanaugh works in the Portsmouth office of Senator Judd Gregg (R-NH) doing environmental, land-conservation and constituent-service work. John Henderson and wife Jip sent holiday greetings from Seattle, where John works as a school librarian.
Wendy Richter recently drove with her two sons, inner tubes in tow, from her home in Arlington, Massachusetts, to Hanover in search of snow. They found not only snow, but also a Cat in the Hat, a bald eagle and dorm bathrooms that hadn't changed in 20 years. Wendy and her husband, Neal, are both architects, which comes in handy as they are into year eight of renovating this old house." David Eichman sends his regards from Los Angeles. He and Amelia Craig Cramer are busy working on the next all-class reunion for the Dartmouth Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Alumni Association, which will be held in Hanover the weekend of October 1-3. Marrin Robinson writes from Cairo, Egypt, where she has spent the last five years teaching art at the American University. She recently completed a body of work in oils and watercolors titled LightAcross Borders, part of which will be exhibited at the American College of Greece this May. Marrin sees Edie Farwell and Jay Mead every year when she summers at her Vermont studio.
A recent Wall Street Journal article profiled Steve McCarthy and his firm, West Wind Capital Partners. Steve and a colleague from his prior firm, Tischman Speyer Properties, founded West Wind, which is changing the face of the real estate market in Washington, D.C. Steve lives in Buckhead, Georgia, with his wife and four children. Jill Rizika was recently promoted to associate director of To wards Employment, a leading nonprofit organi zation offering employment and retention services located in Cleveland. Before joining To wards Employment, Jill logged 14 years of program management experience in positions of increasing responsibility with multicultural, nonprofit organizations around the world. David Cummings has just been named one of 12 researchers nationwide who will receive this years Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers. His wife and Harvard Medical School classmate, Felicia, will join him at the White House awards ceremony. The award comes with a hefty grant, which will help fund Davids research program on obesity.
Ben Wagner and Scott Simmons summitted Mt. Kilmanjaro in February. Scott's wife, Stephanie, and baby Sophie were glad to have him back after the arduous seven-day hike. Scott noted, "You can't predict what will happen to you above 16,000 feet." Ralph McDevitt wryly observed, "We were never able to predict what Ben would do after two beers, let alone at 16,000 feet of altitude!" Ralph has three girls in grades 6 to 9, and recently took in the Dartmouth women's basketball game vs. Penn with Sally Adnopoz Gendler. Ralph reports that Jim McKenzie and Dale Janik are also part of the Philly posse. Jim is a lawyer with Morgan Lewis and Bockius and Dale is a gastroenterologist. Ralph visited with Stan Kraska in Baltimore, where Stan works as an institutional real estate advisor and had just moved into a corner office after being promoted. Stan's boys are schooling at McDonough with Peter Rosenwald's kids.
