As I write this column my 13year-old daughter is baking dog treats for her business, Central Bark Pet Bakery. Emma does her own books, writes her own checks, bakes in our kitchen and sells them at her stand at a local farmers market. All of those trips to Ben & Jerrys in Vermont must have had an effect on her, as she donates 7 percent of her profits to the local S.P.C.A. When I talked with Rob Ford in San Carlos, California, he mentioned that his dog Mocha would be a willing West Coast test taster. He also volunteered to help Emma franchise when the time comes! If anyone else has a mutt that is willing to send in a testimonial let me know and we'll ship you a sample bag or two of Achin' Bacon Hearts or Peanut Butter Postmen. Rob has two great boys, Charlie and Luke, who appear, by the e-mailed photo I received, to be quite talented. Charlie is playing the bass and Luke is singing at a social function. Past attempts to e-mail classmates are paying dividends. Fellow rox jock Edith Newton Wilson reported in from Tulsa, Oklahoma, where she lives with husband Glenn and son Jimmy. Edith is with Samson Resources on the unconventional gas team (I can't make this stuff up). It is a family-owned independent producer and Edith explores for gas in the United States and Canada. When you find some can you send it to me to help with heating my 1929 house? The whole family is into climb- ing mountains, including Jimmy, who climbed his first fourteener at age 10. Edith climbed Kilimanjaro in 2004 and boasts that even though Glenn is the head mountaineer in the family, she has slept higher than he has ever climbed. I am cursing co-editors Peter Folger and Phillipa Guthrie as our latest class newsletter was filled with so much news that I feel that I've been out-scooped. What a tremendous job you do, Peter and Philli- pa. When you are short on news and it is late- call the West Coast! Dick Vanßergh's wife, Vera, answered and quickly put Dick on the phone. Dick owns Permalite Plastics, obviously follow- ing the advice given to Dustin Hoffman years ago. Dick and Vera live in Coto de Caza, Califor- nia, and have twin 11-year-olds. One danger of sending me a card and letter about your family in December is that I will use any information that I can get my hands on. Barry Schweitzer did just that. Barry lives in Cheshire, Connecticut, with Lisa, loth-grader Liv and seventh-grader Ben. Steve Schuh married Parice Halbert (Colorado College '9l) last year and received a master's in education from Johns Hopkins. Steve is eyeing a run for the Maryland state legislature with a plat- form that focuses on education and health care. I promise I won't tell the voters about the time he got his head too close to a paint stripper attached to a hand drill. Gabe Kind wrote back from San Francisco, where he has a private practice in mi- cro-reconstructive breast and hand surgery. Please e-mail the class secretaries with some news before we e-mail you. We'd love to hear from those of you who have not seen your name in boldface print, ever.
