I just returned from Shinnecock Hills and the 2004 U.S. Open. I seem to remember that there is a Dartmouth connection there—something about the course superintendent being a Dartmouth alum. If anyone can fill in the blanks, e-mail me! My son, Dan, and I had a great time and my hat is off to any and all of you who live and commute on L.I. As I scanned the '82 face book (at www.dartmouthß2.org/facebook), I found a new name added to the list and e-mailed Dave Plekenpol. The fact that he lives in Scotland and my golfer son wants to go there in 2006 to play St. Andrews made for a great reason to e-mail Dave. His entry in the face book is wonderful stuff (as are all of the entries) and a great example of a road less traveled. Some highlights include wife Victoria, daughter Regan (8) and son Garret (6), living in a 230-year-old manor house overlooking the Avon River, and managing Alcatel's global relationship with Orange, the mobile arm of French Telecom. Eric Cline has been in the news as he's been promoted to associate professor of classics at the George Washington University (in Washington, D.C.), been appointed chair of the department of classics and Semi tics, and won the GWU Bender Excellence in Teaching Award for 2003-2004. Also, his book Jerusalem Besieged: From Ancient Canaan to ModernIsrael will be published in September; look for it in a Borders/Barnes & Noble near you! He's off to dig at Megiddo (biblical Armageddon) again, for the month of June. Eric's been in the news and on TV quite a bit, because of the new movie on Troy (one of his periods of expertise). At Megiddo he will be continuing his excavations of Palace 6000, which may or may not have been built by King Solomon in the 10th century BC. This spring Rob McGrath spoke at a Tuck School of Business entrepreneurship conference. He is the founder of Abercrombie & Kent Destination Clubs, the world's first and foremost premiere destination clubs, offering members unlimited use of a collection of residences, resort suites, yachts, private aircraft, A&K tours and safaris, experiences and services in more than 60 locations on all seven continents. Sounds as if it might be worth visiting www.akdestinations.com! Priorto founding the first club, Private Retreats, Rob developed a $25 million luxury condominium project in Telluride, Colorado, and co-developed a $45 million project in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Beginning in 1991 Rob spent five years on Wall Street as a commercial mortgage-backed securities trader at J.P. Morgan and Nomura Securities. Prior to his career in real estate finance Rob competed professionally for six years on the World Pro Ski Tour. Eric Miller has been inspired to offer to serve as the central starting point for our 25 th reunion planning effort. His e-mail is ericmillertiger@aol.com. Folks who are interested can get in touch with him, and they can in turn reach out to more folks and get the ball rolling! Summer of 2007 will be here soon enough. Please visit the '82 face book.
