With Winter Carnival over it was time to reflect on this year’s events. Dartmouth won its fourth carnival for the season. This being the 100th anniversary of the Outing Club, the student members made great plans— with plenty of snow to work with—to build a replica of the Ravine Lodge as the center of campus statue. However, temperatures rose and the building collapsed. Nonplussed, and with plenty of student help working well into the night, the lodge was transformed into the two peaks of Mt. Moosilauke. Irrepressible youth!
We received a lovely note from Claudine Starret, widow of Austin Starret, reminiscing about our very last reunion and what a good time was had by all who attended. Yes, we did!
Dexter Martin ’36 sends a compliment and asks if Rip writes the poems. Yes, Dexter, they are all originals. He refers to himself as a versifier.
By the time this is being read spring will have “sprung” here in the Upper Valley, and none too soon for most of us. Though it has been a banner year for skiers.
Rip’s verse: “Now my wife writes the notes I have no one to quote For I have no more classmates to lie to And I have to admit And it gives me a fit That the cartoon looks better than I do.”
