As you can see, this month's "mag" is packed with page upon page of Alumni Fund contributors, and space is at a premium. So, in the interest of the greatest amount of news in the smallest possible space, I'll dispense with the usual nostalgic ramblings and dig right into the pile of '55 epistles that surounds me.

Ken Lundstrom has just completed his OCS training at Newport and reports that the summer there was an enjoyable one with Dartmouth '55 well represented. Paul Jacobsen, Bill Bassett, and Tom Hamilton were all on the scene. "Hambone" started a rugby team (Ken says its initiation arose partly from Dartmouth ingenuity, and partly from the desire to get out of drill). The season was climaxed with a Dartmouth-OCS game at Smith. 'Nuff said? Don Mix and Lyn Brock are also scheduled to receive their commissions this month.

Ken and crew studied Naval Justice during the program under Elliott Hersey, who's now an instructor at Newport. Ken is now on his way to Little Creek, Va., for two weeks of amphibian training, and from there will head to the Mediterranean where he'll board the USS Taconic.

John French writes from the less military surroundings of Harvard U. that he has become engaged to Leslie Ten Eyck of New York City. Leslie is a student at Sarah Lawrence at present, and has studied at the Sorbonne. Jim Venman and Pete Fishbein are also at that learned institution helping to hold down the Dartmouth fort. Pete did Dartmouth the honor of placing second in the class last year. John spent the summer at Harry Lewis' home in Denver while working for a Denver law firm, and reported that Harry is now stationed - car and all - in the Hawaiian Islands with a guided-missile outfit. As they say in the military, "War's Hell."

Ensign John Ballard, another "navigator," writes that he's seen Norrie Howard flying "whirly-birds" over the Florida terrain. Gordie Hope now flys the "fast ones," and PeteBuhler is somewhere in the Aleutians.

Jim Venman and his wife Jan, along with Harry and Nan Weil attended Jack Wilder's wedding to Sandy Smith of Westford, Mass., where Tom Schoonmaker and Jim MacGavern were ushers. Sandy is a Colby graduate, Class of '55.

Julie Klein writes from aboard the carrier, USS Tarawa, engaged in anti-submarine work along the Atlantic Coast. Julie's titles on board are "Third Division Officer" (boats) and "Junior Officer of the Deck Underway." These are probably as impressive a set of la bels as I've yet to see in my brief military sojourn.

Stan Epstein dropped me a card from England giving a brief itinerary of what must have been a very interesting six months abroad. Stan spent some time in England "doing domestic work, farming at an international work camp, assisting the supervisor of a boy's club in London, painting and wall papering, cleaning factories and offices for the OCS. Ltd., doing outside painting, and general duties in an antique shop." In Austria he helped a farmer build his home, worked as a laborer on road construction in Munich, worked at the Pestalozzi Children's village in Switzerland, and is now off for Yugoslavia for a brief stay with a friend in Belgrade. Say, Stan old man, just what do you do with all your spare time?

News comes from Worcester, Mass., of a really "Big Green" wedding. Pete Gulick married Sue Spaulding of Worcester and Smith (daughter of "Spud" Spaulding '24 and sister of Line '56). Pete's brother, Ed ('50) was his best man, and Dick Then, Lt. Paul Teimer, Tom Hardenburg and Hugh Taylor were all on hand. It looks as if Pete's found himself a real Dartmouth gal - Sue's father writes that the organist even played "Dartmouth Undying" just before the Wedding March, and he highly recommends it for such an occassion.

Pete and Sue have left for Mesa, Ariz., where Pete will take a three months' course in gunnery at Williams AFB. After this training he hopes to return to Dartmouth to complete his senior year while completing his military obligation by flying with the New Hampshire National Guard. He was top man in his Cadet class at Del Rio, Tex., and graduated from basic as an Honor Officer.

Mike Plumer and Bruce Detlefson each take another step in their teaching career this fall. Mike is teaching English at the Hill School, and Bruce will join the French department at Moses Brown in Providence.

Pvt. Aaron Simon is editor of the "Mizzle Blast," the monthly magazine of the 138 AAA Company stationed in Japan.

Jack Hodgson has returned home from Europe after a year of study at Helsinki. He will enter Harvard graduate school as a Ford Foundation Scholarship Student.

Pvt. Dave Hurlbut has reported to Ft. Dix for his eight-weeks' basic training course. His wife Shirley will hold down the Teepee in Perry, Ohio, until Dave completes his tour.

Bob Primo was married to Josephine Lavigno of Syracuse. Josephine attended Le Moyne College in Syracuse. Bob now owns and operates a service station which he and his brothers run while he's attending Syracuse University Law School.

John Barlow will marry Anne Woodbury of Lincoln, N. H., next summer. Anne is a University of New Hampshire graduate and is currently a medical technician at Mary Hitchcock. John is doing his graduate work in medicine at Harvard.

Dick Gardner married Audrey Smith of Paterson, N. J., this September. Audrey attends Paterson State Teachers College and is in her senior year. Dick is a chemist with Picatemy Arsenal, Dover, Del.

Pvt. John Stonehill left for Europe on September 18 as part of Uncle Sam's "Operation Gyroscope." His official assignment for you who might want to look him up is and Battalion, Headquarters Company, 5th Regiment of the 8th Army Division.

Bob Johanson is engaged to Diane Austin of Cranford, N. J., a junior at Bucknell University. Bob is currently employed by the Eastman Kodak Co. in Rochester as an industrial engineer.

Bob (S.) Hayes will marry Skidmore senior, Joan Page of Glen Rock, N. J. John Kerr married Marian Sarden of Dallas, Texas. Marian and John (who finished his college career at S.M.U.) will make their home in Hawaii.

Barry Meiselman married Toba Lee Romm of Woodbury, N. J., who attended the University of Pennslyvania. Barry and Toba Lee will settle in Philadelphia after their wedding: trip to Bermuda.

Ensign Ted Hawkins is engaged to marry Priscilla Finn of Bronxville, N. Y. Priscilla is a Wellesley gal and an editorial assistant with the McNaught Syndicates, Inc. (She is also Alumnae Secretary of her Class of '56, for which reason I extend to her my deepest sympathies. - Anyone interested in a complete and unabridged listing of all surviving single girls in said class write to GIRLS, Box 56. Wellesley 15, Mass.) "Hawk" is now stationed aboard the USS Wadleigh operating out of Norfolk.

Let me pause here to thank you all for the many letters you wrote last month. Let's see lots more in the months to come. A Merry Christmas and a very successful New Year to you and your families.

So long for now.
