Barbara and Chuck Riley are at Englewood, Fla., again this winter, Sabal Lane, R.R. 1, 30 miles south of Sarasota. A dip in the Gulf every day.... Eddie Sides has a new address at 10474-118th Place North, Largo, Fla. They are most enthusiastic about the climate and the lack of creaking joints, arthritis or what have you and to be free of ice and snow, sleet and slippery driving on the West Coast.

Ralph and Florence Samuel were in Europe again last summer but Ralph succumbed to the Asian flu in Brussels. All three sons are married and as he says "we boast 10 grandchildren ranging from not quite three to fourteen."

Jeannette Adams from Holyoke reports that Ruth, Rocky and their two children and Dave Senior's sister, head of the Circulation Dept. in the Dartmouth Library, visited her in November.

Martha Hugus in Wheeling, West Va., has a kindergarten started in September. She was a teacher before she and Judge were married and now one of the children is a 4-year-old grandchild of a former pupil.

Harry French's son Arthur and Peg have a new daughter, making ten grandchildren. Another ten strike.

General Harry H. Semmes was the lecturer on November 25 in 13 Carpenter Hall on "Post Stalin Russia" presented by the Dartmouth Lecture Series. Harry has been directly concerned for several years with intelligence work on the Soviet Union. As you will remember he has served as the Vice Chairman of the National Security Committee.

The secretary following his annual Thanks-giving flight to Dallas, Texas, returned via Miami and West Palm Beach. In June Georgeand Hattie Davidson urged a visit to their Flower Ranch, Route 1, Box 204, West Palm Beach, and advised Cap and Emmy Avery in Boynton Beach, P. O. Box 11832, I was to arrive Saturday the 29th. We all had dinner at the Davidson's Saturday night and at the Avery's Sunday. You who live in Florida and able to see your next door neighbors, sometimes they are even closer, would be interested in George and Hattie's five acres of gardens and fruit and flowering trees. They are raising, or will when finished, everything that will grow in Florida. It will be and is now a show place and they welcome visitors. You never saw such a variety of palms, flowering shrubs and trees, fruits of all varieties, some most unusual. We will not attempt a list. Perhaps we'll dare try in the News Letter.

Steve and Mary Jewett in Laconia have a third daughter, Samantha Mary born December 13; 7 lbs. 10 ozs. T. D. and Marian Jewett both doing well.

Earle Bidwell and Marge spent the holidays in Mexico. Bruce and Liese went down from Fort Bliss to join them at Mexico City and go on to Acapulco.

Edmund Freeman, who retires December 31, reported that Don Gilchrist's son was in Buck's Library in December. He went to Princeton, did graduate work at Harvard and is now at Johns Hopkins for his Ph.D. in History. He is a very personable young man and a diligent worker.

Howard Stoughton and Grace are living in a little cottage on a private estate up in New-foundland, N. J., a little cottage elevation 1400 ft. and a magnificent view of four mountain ranges, with the use of a large swimming pool, greenhouse and 155 acres of fields and woods.

The Wallace McCoys sent their annual Christmas letter and report of family conditions. Since last year Wallace's mother passed away as she neared 90, on March 9. Ruth and Ronald Forrest presented them with a second son. Clark is a unit manager in Production Design, Computer Dept. for General Electric Company. On a July trip he drove from Los Angeles to Boston in a Ford Thunderbird, 10 days, via Grand Canyon and Salt Lake City.
