A distinction that relatively few people ever achieve in this life is to be attacked on the editorial pages of our daily press. Our classmate, Hal Herman achieved this honor when his latest book was derided by the Soviet Press, as recorded in these pages at an earlier date.

Now the accolade is given to no less than Asher Bob Lans, in an editorial in the Concord (N. H.) Monitor. It seems that the New Hampshire Sweepstakes Commission is planning to order its counsel, one Joseph Millimet '36 to spend some $10,000 and six or seven days in Europe to explore the possibility of sweepstakes sales abroad. "He will be accompanied by an old Dartmouth pal, Attorney Asher B. Lans of New York, described as knowledgeable in international law and foreign procedures," so says the Monitor and then goes on to blast the whole proceeding. Congratulations, Asher!

Turning from the political to the cultural, we find Mrs. Marion S. Sutcliffe representing the distaff side as president of the Boston Women's Symphony Inc. The organization staged a gala Valentine's Benefit at Blinstrub's Village, a spot familiar to some members of the Class. One hopes that husband Jim got all decked out in soup and fish for the occasion.

Now that the mud season is about over, or at least has had its back broken, Hanover will soon be the beautiful spot it always is in the spring. As usual, my invitation to be taken out to dinner still holds.
