Our first comments this month are a couple of apologies. First, to the Class for the very brief notes in the last issue of this publication. When you become class secretary no one tells you there are suddenly about 24 months in a year. Middle age is tough enough without this hassle. Anyway, we're back to normal now and have numerous items to report.

Next, my apologies to Al Fiertz for not reporting on his activities in Switzerland more quickly. Al was good enough to write about several items of news from Geneva and I temporarily misplaced his letter. About the first of the year Al was elected a director of the Trade Development Bank in Geneva and he is now responsible for administrative and operational services of all branches of the bank. So, after a dozen years at Booz, Allen and Hamilton, Al now becomes a gnome of Geneva (which we assume is a branch of the gnomes of Zurich). Al also reports his son Carey has received early acceptance at Dartmouth for this coming fall. Carey will be graduating from Suffield Academy in Connecticut this June.

Earlier this year we reported that BrudLeiter's son Jay was scheduled to be the first offspring of our Class to graduate from Dartmouth. We are now pleased to provide an update that Jay has been accepted for the fall class at the Dartmouth Medical School. Congratulations are in order.

There is an unfortunate tendency for the same names to appear repeatedly in this publication and, with all due respect to those people, we get about as tired of it as you do. Therefore, we are going to be phoning around the country from time to time to get news about classmates that will be of interest to all. This is our first report and we've enjoyed getting the news.

The first couple of calls turned out to bring related Hews. I spoke with Fred Hill of New Canaan, Conn., and learned that he has recently been assigned as one of 75 account executives at IBM who are responsible for IBM's most important accounts. Fred's responsibility is American Can Company in Greenwich, Conn. Prior to this assignment Fred was in large systems marketing in White Plains, one of many interesting assignments in his 21 years with the company. Fred, his wife Jeanette and their three children have lived in New Canaan for 12 years. Their oldest child Debby is a sophomore at Marietta (Ohio) College, their son Rick is a senior at New Canaan High where he is captain of the basketball team, and Claire, their youngest, is a sophomore at the same school.

Ironically, the same day I spoke with Dick O'Neill who has just completed 20 years at American Can and he is based at the Greenwich headquarters, also. In fact, when I mentioned Fred Hill's name he said he had seen him in their building and thought Fred was with their company. Looks like Fred is covering the territory well. Dick is a marketing manager for the food processing industry. He, his wife Pat and their two boys (10 and 12) have resided in Wilton, Conn., for the past six years.

Another member of the Class who has spent his entire career with one company is Phil Chapell. In fact, since Phil joined General Electric immediately out of college (July, 1952) he has 23 years service and may be the record holder. At present, Phil is based at the GE plant in Bridgeport, Conn., where he is involved in operations analysis for the financial side of the business. The Chapells live in nearby Fairfield where Phil, his wife Sunnie (Allison, officially) and their son Chip have lived for the past seven years. Sunnie, by the way, is a member of the Bridgeport Pitchpipers singing group and I'm sure we can use her good voice at our next reunion.

During our conversation Phil mentioned that he frequently sees Tony Dubuque, another 20+ year veteran at GE. Tony is also in the financial side of the business specializing in marketing analysis for products associated with the food industry. He, and his family, including three children live in Stratford, Conn.

Chase Manhatten circumvented the fellow who has written this column since October 1973 by sending a release concerning Secretary Bill Montgomery to the Magazine. So it can be announced with sonable assurance that Bill has been made vice president of the Bank's corporate banking department. Before joining Chase, Bill was president of Singer Leasing Corporation and, further back, was president of Computer Property Corp.

From time to time we have passed Sherm Baldwin in the Rockefeller Center area in New York and we have learned that Sherm is headquartered there with a division of Areata Corporation. Areata is a very large printer of books and magazines, among other things, and Sherm is with their book division. His entire career has been in the printing business and he has been with Areata for the past five years. The Baldwins have four children, two of whom are in college in Colorado. Their daughter Lisa is a sophomore at the University of Denver and another daughter Anne is a freshman at Colorado U. in Boulder. Meanwhile, Sherm, his wife Beth and their two sons Tad and Tucker make their home in Cos Cob, Conn. Beth is busy these days running a very interesting company called Encore Resale, Inc. The company sets up and manages tag (garage or estate) sales in their area. At this stage of life they could Probably make a killing cleaning out all our attics, basements, and garages. Sherm reports he is very active in recruiting for the College.

Another New York commuter from the Cos Cob area is Rog Pierce. Rog is New York district manager for the home furnishings division of Hercules and has been with them for about 12 years. Rog and wife Ann have three children, all in school locally. The oldest Roger (Jr.) and his brother Tyler go to the Brunswick School while Nancy, the youngest, is in the eighth grade. With the good snows we have had in New England this winter it wasn't surprising to learn that the Pierces have been on the boards a lot. They have a place in the Berkshires and report they see Andy Stewart there quite often. Dr. Stewart is a pediatrician in Amherst, Mass., and still is the great skier he was in Hanover.

Finally, we just recently received a nice note from Mary Linman reporting that all is well with them in Atlanta. Buck is busy as ever but they haven't been too busy to miss a reunion yet and look forward to our 25th.
