It is always interesting to learn what the sons and daughters of classmates are doing. One of our latest reports comes from Dana Haskin concerning Dana Jr., who together with his wife Eleanor owns and operates the Waitsfield-Fayton (Vermont) Telephone Company. When mention of telephones automatically brings to mind "Ma Bell," Dana and Eleanor are "Pa" and "Ma" to the four towns in which the company operates. Their company serves 2500 customers, with an annual business of over a million dollars a year, all with a staff of thirteen employees, including themselves. They operate with the latest equipment, were one of the first companies to go to a one-party line system, have already taken care of the problem of listing both husband and wife by name in the directory, and all their pay phones operate without pay for local calls — no coin boxes! This last item must really be a first.

Jimmie Reid reports on their trip west to Arizona by way of Elkhart and South Bend, Ind. They are now enjoying the warmth of Carefree. Jimmie also passes along word that Bill Buchanan has had emergency heart surgery but is coming along well. We hope, however, that the Buchanans' plans include a trip to Florida in January. Our best wishes for recovery, Bill.

Bill Gardner is still active in the practice of medicine. His son is now in his third year at New York Medical College. Bill continues as a medical consultant to the American Field Service International Scholarships.

We regret to record the loss of two classmates: Solly Thurston on November 12, and Mike Watkins on December 12.

Greg Belcher continues many activities (all non-salaried) in Calais, Vt., where he undertakes any civic job that needs to be done, such as the Governor's Study Committee on Forest Taxation and the Town of Calais Employee's Pension Plan, along with his continuing interest in the Calais Historical Society.

If my records are correct, the Joe Burleighs are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on the day this is being written, January 1. Congratulations to Joe and Alice.

Earl Carmody reports that 'they spend the summer in Colorado and the rest of the year in Texas. Earl regrets that the distance is such that they have been able to get to Hanover only infrequently.

Another agricultural report: Dick Henry reports a crop of 301 tomatoes from four Japanese plants. Sounds like some sort of a record. In spite of household chores, which he claims keep him busy, he is a regular attendant at the monthly meetings of the Dartmouth Club of Cape Cod — likewise Roily Barker, Doc Christophe, Brad Stafford and your secretary.

Fred Wood has recently returned from a trip to Greece, including a bus tour of the Peloponnesus, the Aegean islands, and stops in Turkey, Ephesus, and Istanbul.
