A happy note from Kent Woodger announces that he has been transferred by I.B.M. to sell computers in the eastern half of Vermont. Kent, wife Julie, and children now live in New London, N.H. One child is a freshman at New "Hampshire College. Kent is looking forward to following the Big Green teams in person. Since he came to Dartmouth from Pittsfield, Mass., and enjoyed skiing and hockey in those days, it is easy to understand why he was pleased when I.B.M. acted on this transfer request.

An effervescent C. Robert Thompson writes from Toledo, where he is general sales manager for the A.B.C. affiliate television station. Bob has been in Toledo since 1979. He now has one son doing graduate work at Arizona State in landscaping, one at Oswego State, and an 18-year-old working and considering his next move. Two classmates Bob would love to hear from are Buck Parker and Don Magnusson, as well as any '58s coming through Toledo. Bob is at 419/535-0024 during office hours and at 419/885-2467 otherwise. "Refuge awaits one and all." Bob mentions Ted Furber's having moved to Minneapolis to enter private law practice and his seeing Toledo attorney Tom Maguire "as he moves upward and onward as a top attorney." Thanks for the nice note, Bob.

A few words on the Hanover scene. As you know, Dartmouth and the Ivies are now in Division 1-AA, due to N.C.A.A. action. It always mystified me why Dartmouth wanted to be classified in the same league as the Alabamas, U.S.C.'s, Oklahomas, etc. Ourfootball players are intelligent, attend class, and actually graduate. If they ever held a game in which the graduates of any class played the graduates of that same year from one of the big powers, we would kill them. You probably did not know that football attendance has declined at Dartmouth and other Ivy League schools and no longer makes a profit for the institution. . . .

After recent election contests, publicity, etc., the Alumni Council is considering proposals for reorganization, with each reunion class nominating one person for a three-year term, and also reducing Northeast and membership-at-large representation. . . . Dartmouth's early decision candidates for the class of 1986 numbered 1,100 up ten per cent to an all-time high. The class of 1985 (1,054) came from 8,158 completed applications and had a yield of 60 per cent. Enrollment workers for the South, Southwest, and West are needed for Dartmouth. The facts are courtesy of RichardJ. Blum '53, class secretary and Alumni Council representative. Errors are self-generated.

Dave Stevens, with whom I occasionally have the pleasure of doing legal business, writes that he finished his tour of military service and settled in his home town of East Chicago, Ind., to practice law. The law business is going well. In 1960 he married Nada Chelra, a Pine Manor graduate. No children yet, but Dave states that he is by no means discouraged in his efforts. Coeducation found Dave turning away from the College. However, since he is both a reasonable person and may yet father a daughter or two, time is on our side. Nice to hear from you, Dave.
