The College has recently received two distributions of securities from the estate of Art Hassel, valued at $148,965, with additional cash distributions anticipated. This constitutes a fund to be known as the Lura B. Hassel Fund in Memory of Arthur P. Hassel. The income is to be used to pay a full scholarship for a student residing in Summit, N.J. If no scholarship is awarded in any year the income is to be included in the Aiumni Fund. You may recall that Art transferred to Dartmouth after two years at Cornell. The move was a happy one for him and for us. Also, he earned our respect for his success as a vice president of B. Altman and Company.
For his work as bequest co-chairman of our class, which is second among all classes in the amount of life-income gifts, and by his leading role in raising over a half-million dollars for the Class of 1928 Scholarship Fund, our president, Curly Prosser, on April 29, was proclaimed Bequest Chairman of the Year and recipient of the Ford H. Welden 1925 Award. All you contributors out there who made this possible can take satisfaction and pride in this recognition of your efforts.
Doc Simonds has agreed to take on the job of class treasurer to replace CraigHaines who, unfortunately, is still ailing. The resignation of Betty Dietz, Bill's widow, for reasons of health was regretfully accepted.
The fall mini-reunion will be held the weekend of the Princeton game, September 16. The Norwich Inn has sold out to others on Friday night but are holding 10 rooms for us for Saturday night until August 1. They require the total cost of $110.11 per room when making reservations. If cancelled they deduct a $lO fee. We will have the use of the library for a dinner party after the game. If you require accommodations for Friday get in touch with Curly or HprbSensening.
Curly Prosser and Larry Martin, widowers both, took off in May for a couple of weeks in Switzerland, and enjoyed a high (pun intended) old time in the Alps.
Ed Flanders reports that this year we have broken the record for total contributions to the Alumni Fund for a class 61 years out of Dartmouth. Establishing new records is getting to be a habit for our class and for Ed Flanders.
To our already heavy death toll this year we must regretfully add the following: Collie Weeks, January 11; Tom Ellis, February 17; Ford Blickley, February 28; LinGray, March 15; John Gordon, April 4.
