First, an apology. In an Earlier column, I misspelled the first name of Mark (not Marc) Alvarez. He said that he will keep my spelling in mind should he assume a more European persona.

Dave Abbott has been honored by his peers with the American Institute of Professional Geologist's Martin Van Couvering Award. This is one of AIPG's major awards and is given for long-time and outstanding service to the institute. It recognizes Dave's work in professional ethics as chair of the Ethics Committee and compiler of the monthly "Professional Ethics and Practices" column in the ProfessionalGeologist. Dave's latest work for AIPG is the editing and publishing of Geological Ethics andProfessional Practices, 1981-1991. This is a collection of reprinted articles from the Professional Geologist.

John Kitzhaber is trying to become the first Democratic governor of Oregon to be re-elected since the early 1900s. If you don't already know how the election turned out, you will have to wait for next month's column.

El Presidente Norman Jacobs, is looking for someone to put a Dartmouth class of 1969 Webpage together. Whoever takes on the task would also be responsible for maintaining and updating the page. A new class officer position, Webmaster '69, would be created. No money, but you get the nifty title. If you are interested, let me know at the address below.

Sadly, I received word of the passing of David Wetmiller on July 20. The class extends our sympathies to his wife, Amy, and sons Jonathan and Timothy.

Our 30th Reunion is fast approaching, June 17-20, 1999. Make the effort. Take care and write.
